Just bought my plane ticket to Costa Rica!
I love saving money.
My sister and I saved about $800 choosing Taca over American Airlines. We will be leaving on May 21st to take classes for two weeks at the Conversa Institute in Santa Ana, followed by one week of travel. We discovered that her American Airlines miles can be redeemed at hotels, as can my CitiCard Reward Points. We checked a few places and since we're technically going during the off-season, we're going to be able to stay in 4-5 star all-inclusive resort-hotels for a week completely for free!
I hope those of you who use credit cards have one with reward points. I've had mine for about 4 years now and I have already redeemed $400 in gift cards and have enough for $400 more. And the kicker is that I don't usually spend too much money, but mostly take advantage of 4x points deals (for shopping at Citi's partner stores, most of which I already shopped at anyway). Last November, they ran a promotion and I received a $200 Restaurants.com gift card for spending $1000 between November and January. They have a referral promotion going on right now until June 30th, where if I can refer someone, I'll get $50 per person.
