There are only 23 days left until Christmas. And it hasn't snowed yet. This is beautiful news.
I really can't get over the no snow business. It's so great! I'm really hoping it'll hold off until Christmas break. That would be super. I can't wait until break, but I can't seem to see past the veritable mountain of shit I have to get done before that. I have four exams, four final exams, two presentations, and one project due in the next few weeks. Does this seem ridiculous to you, too? Because it definitely does to me. I'm not entirely sure how it's all going to get done...
Thanksgiving was pretty great. I went home on Tuesday night, which was a day earlier than what I was supposed to, which was great. Wednesday morning I went geocaching with Kevin and Stephanie in Grand Ledge, which was a lot of fun. Steph seemed to enjoy herself, and she even found a really hard one on her first try! I really like that it lets you explore random parts of town - I hadn't been to most of those places in Grand Ledge in years, if ever!
Wednesday afternoon and evening I spent baking delicious desserts for the next day. It was a lot of fun! I made raspberry truffle cupcakes, banana caramel cupcakes, cookies & cream chocolate pie, pecan pie, chocolate pecan pie, grasshopper brownies, banana bread and chocolate peanut butter pie.
Thanksgiving day was fun, too. We woke up and watched the parade as we prepped the turkey, and then we started getting everything else ready to cook. I think I spent pretty much two full days in the kitchen, haha. The only things I didn't haven't anything to do with making out of the whole Thanksgiving meal and dessert was the pumpkin pie and corn casserole. Oh, and the rolls. But I bought them, so it kind of still counts. I made sangria, too. For my first time making it, it was really good! It ended up being REALLY strong though, so we had to add about an equal part Sprite, but it made it bubbly and delicious. Next time I'll probably add some more juice or use a sweeter wine. Or both.
We had a lot of people over for the actual dinner. Usually it's just me, my parents, Abby and my aunt Kathy. This year my cousin Rachel and her boyfriend Doug came, and my aunt Pat and uncle Rod, and their daughter Erica, her husband TJ and their son Todd. Even more people came over for dessert, and even Annie and Nate stopped by for a while! They were at Nate's grandma's Thanksgiving in Portland, so they stopped by after that. It was kind of hilarious, apparently there was a bit of a poo situation at their dinner. I guess they were in this little meeting hall that was packed with a bunch of people, and like 12 kids under the age of 2. Someone brought their dog, which ended up pooping on the floor near the kids, but nobody noticed until it was all over the kids and ground into the carpet. Then one of the kids pooped themselves and instead of taking the poo clothes outside, the mom just wrapped them up and put them in the corner. so the whole place reeked of poo. Then, even better, when it was time to eat, the kids that were playing on the floor with the dog poop and the kid that pooped himself ran up (without washing!) and started digging in to all the food. UGH! So gross! Luckily for them, they showed up right as we were packing up all the leftovers from dinner, so they got dinner and dessert at my house.
After everyone left our house, we went to the casino in Battle Creek. It was actually a pretty fun time, and I walked out with almost $150! Luckily it was a short trip though - my mom and aunt Kathy have been known for their day-long trips to the casino, and I just can't handle that! I'm good for 2 or 3 hours, tops, and then I'm done. I can only stand sitting at one machine and pressing a button for so long, and then I get bored and cranky.
The rest of my Thanksgiving break was kind of boring. We did a little bit of shopping the day after, and then I was sick for the rest of break. I pretty much slept for the entire night on Friday, and I spent the entire day Saturday on the couch being doctored by my mom. I hate being sick. I'm not even sure what I had, probably just a bad cold or something, but I lost my voice, which I don't think has ever happened before. It was kind of funny, actually. But I'm just now starting to feel better today, thank goodness. I spent pretty much the entire beginning of the week alternating between sleeping and studying, and it was NOT fun. And as of today my voice is almost completely back! Yay!
I just discovered a HUGE skunk in my backyard a little bit ago. I was about to let Ella out, and I looked out the window and saw this huge animal sniffing around the yard right in front of the door. At first I thought it was a cat, and I was about to go outside and scare it away, but then I noticed the color and markings! I totally would have gotten sprayed! It was kind of crazy - I don't think I've ever seen a skunk that wasn't roadkill. And this one was so big!
