so my birthday was about two weeks ago...not much to say about it...as usual, i don't really feel any older or more mature...i think that'll only happen when i have a real job which won't be happening for a few more years...anyway, during my random browsing of the interweb, i came upon a profile of aquarius which is my zodiac sign...from my understanding, astrology works by being vague enough so that whatever is being said can apply to many people...in turn, the people reading it will look for connections to their own lives and find meaning wherever possible...so i read profiles of the other signs and i felt that they all described me to certain extents...since they usually outline good characteristics, most people would probably agree with them...i don't think many people would see "intelligent, caring, loyal" and cry foul...that being said, i thought the aquarius profile did a pretty good job of describing me so i'm including parts of it here...it was long and i tried to trim it down as much as i could...

when i worked in a lab, i remember always being told that i was well suited for research and other researchers would be surprised when they learned that i wasn't interested in research as a career path...i liked working there because it didn't involve test tubes and petri dishes and running tests...i was actually doing things....much like that last sentence i highlighted, i had to record fish doing very specific things and i had the freedom to do whatever i needed to to meet those goals...all my problem solving skills came very useful...
When it comes to money, this sign really has a knack for keeping a healthy balance between having the things that they need and putting money away. When they are out shopping, the shiny, glittery, and extravagant will catch their attention even though their homes are generally decorated with great taste. i joke sometimes about being an emotionless robot pondering what human feelings are like...but i think it is true that i'm detached from my emotions...it's like i'm aware of them and understand them and maybe even feel them but i don't let them affect me when possible...maybe because i place so much importance on being rational...
Sometimes they wonder if there is something in life that they are missing because they do not feel like other people feel. This does not necessarily prevent them from being involved in intimate relationships, but the person on the other end will always notice an air of detachment from Aquarius. Aquarius wonders 'why?' so much that they can question their existence. this whole journal is an example of me wanting people to notice and appreciate me...the idea that it stems from insecurities that aren't brought to the surface because i know i'm special is interesting...the next paragraph mentions aquarius being filled with paradoxes which is a conclusion i've reached on my own years ago...sometimes i have a huge ego that needs to be stroked...other times i'm humble and self deprecating...one part of me wants attention, the other wants none...my 'about me' section in my facebook profile states "i'm extra ordinary" because one part of me thinks that i'm a very boring, average person while another part thinks i'm unique and special and perhaps extraordinary...even my screenname aperfectdefect is an oxymoron...i dunno...i guess everyone is complex and likes to imagine they can't be easily described in a few words...

the verbally skilled and witty part is only true when i'm communicating through text...the never judging people part is wrong because i always judge people although i keep all my judgments in my head...everyone is entitled to their opinion is very true though...matt can talk all the trash he wants about the matrix and i don't mind...this is also why i hate snobs who think their opinion is better or more important than others...you can make fun of things, just don't make fun of people for liking certain things...i'm very observant and love people watching...i tell myself often that everything i've learned in life i learned from watching tv...i like the mention of being a master manipulator...i think i'm an excellent liar despite being an usually honest person...

so that was longer than i wanted it to be...if you haven't noticed, i like to think and analyze a lot and one of the things i like to think about and analyze is myself...that's why i could have written a whole bunch more on how i view myself, but i'm not sure if people would want to read all of that...in the end, i don't really believe in all this astrology stuff...i just think that coincidentally i have a lot of characteristics of an aquarius...i do wonder how they come up with all this stuff though...
