mr. tran has a question

dear people who read this journal,

i want to get your opinion on something...when i go hang out with friends, i usually take photos...sometimes i only take a few photos (like when i wrote about kickball a few entries down) so i just post all the photos i take here...other times, i take a whole bunch of photos...for example, i'm going to write about the secret santa party we had at nick and shiu pei's awhile ago...i'm going to upload the dozens of photos onto facebook with some comments and then write about what happened in more depth in this journal...the question is how many photos do i post here?

one option is that i put up only a couple of the best or funniest or most representational photos...just enough to sort of enhance whatever i'm writing about...the other option is that i put up every photo...obviously, i like to write a lot about whatever i'm focusing on so an obscene amount of photos should go well with an obscene amount of text right? the difference between the options would be about a dozen photos versus 40+ photos...

i'm leaning towards the more photos option since i like to include every detail i can...one issue with putting up every photo is that i don't have something to say about each one...for instance, if i have a random picture of matt making a funny face, i could put it up on facebook amidst all the others with no comment on it and there'd be no problem...however, if i put it up here, i would either not mention anything about it or i would have to go out of my way to talk about it...in other words, i like writing one long continuous narrative about what happened without having to go on tangents to explain every photo...i guess i could possibly write little captions underneath the pictures that aren't referenced in the main text...

as i'm writing this, i think i've settled on what i want to do but i want to hear what you guys think anyway...so the options are:

1) a long narrative plus a dozen or so photos
2) a long narrative plus lots of photos (which may or may not be described)
3) a long meandering narrative that tries to talk about each photo plus lots of photos
4) a long narrative plus lots of photos plus captions for photos that aren't mentioned in the long narrative

no matter how much i write, if i do options 2-4, the photos are going to vastly outnumber the text which i'm not going to like on a purely visual standpoint but there's nothing i can do about that...anyway, one last question...the pictures i post currently (at least the landscape oriented ones) are about 600 pixels wide since that's about how wide the text of the journal is...sometimes i think the pictures are too big especially when the aspect ratio is 4x3...i try to crop off the tops and bottoms of pictures to make them shorter while keeping the same width which is more aesthetically pleasing to my eye...when there's a couple of pictures in the entry, i don't think it's too much of an issue...but if i end up putting up 50 pictures, it might be a problem...what do you think? make the pictures smaller for the more image heavy entries? or keep them big cuz you like looking at pictures?

thanks for any input...
