To my Latinistas--
Would you please see if you can translate these two stanzas I composed? I have always had great trepidation about writing poetry in Latin, because I fear that I might write verses too clunky to be readily intelligible. If you would be so kind as to offer your translation, I would be most grateful. The meter is Sapphic, accentual, but not perfectly quantitative. Nonetheless, I have tried to make accent and quantity match wherever I could.
AD DILECTISSIMVM,
versus scripti Romæ.
Capitis orbis, urbis in decore
Qui sto miratus, neque delectatus
Ipso relicto te sole carensque
Contemplor solum.
Marmoris multā circum* et arbore
Datus et rosis delicatis atque
Fontibus, autem te fervens ardenter
Sitio solum.
*tmesis for circumdatus.
