Excuse Me Miss

A/N: Requested by Kat LOL

She sat down at the table by herself, gazing aimlessly at the crowd on the dance floor. It was a night of celebration, for it was her friend Goo Hara’s 18th birthday. All the scheduled events for the party were over, as people were now either dancing or taking photos at the photo booth across the room. She took out her iPhone, not because she didn’t want to seem like a total loner, but out of sheer boredom. She wasn’t necessarily a party person, as she preferred being calm and collected. She browsed the web for a bit, before placing the phone back into her bag.

Her friends Yuri and Yoona stood near the dance floor, but they weren’t dancing. From her view, it seemed like they were making fun of how the people were dancing.  She sighed, as she stood up from her seat to approach them. In truth, she felt a little lonely. She liked doing things alone, but she loathed the feeling of loneliness. She also didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb as the only person who was still sitting at one of the tables.

Yuri noticed her approaching and greeted her. “About time you got here Jessica. You should really look at these people; it’s so funny watching how they dance! Oh my goodness look at Taecyeon he just booty popped!”

“At least they’re dancing Yuri” she responded.

“You know I don’t dance.”

“That’s because you can’t.”

“You shouldn’t be talking. I’m not the one who was sitting down over there by herself like a loner. At least I’m where the majority of the people are.”

“Yeah, yeah whatever” she rolled her eyes.

“What were you doing over there anyway?” Yuri questioned.

“I was just thinking about some things. You know you should learn to think Yuri, maybe then you wouldn’t have a 12% in AP Biology. ”

“You were so not thinking. More like, you were staring at Tiffany again” she chuckled and tapped Yoona on the shoulder. She whispered words in Yoona’s ears, raising Jessica’s curiosity. After Yuri was done whispering whatever she was saying, Yoona smiled and walked towards the dance floor with an obvious purpose.

“What was that about?”

“You’ll see.” Jessica’s eyes widened as she saw Yoona talking with Tiffany and a couple of her friends on the outer skirts of the dance floor. She knew that something was going on, and mentally prepared herself for it. Maybe they were going to force her onto the dance floor and embarrass herself, or even worse, they were telling Tiffany that she wanted to dance with her.  Yoona motioned Yuri to come where she was standing with Tiffany.

It was only around Tiffany, did the feelings of nervousness and anxiety run through her veins. Whenever Jessica saw Tiffany, blood would rush towards her face and she would do almost anything to hide it. She often found herself tongue tied, whenever the girl tried to start a conversation with her. The truth was that Jessica has had feelings for Tiffany. Jessica’s friends knew this, and were determined to embarrass her whenever they had the chance. For them, this looked like a chance that they could never pass up.

Jessica shook these thoughts away, deeming them ridiculous. Yuri and Yoona walked together to the photo booth after they were done talking with Tiffany who returned to the dance floor. She saw another one of her friends, Taeyeon approaching her with a glass of water in hand. Taeyeon has always been the most hyper and dorky out of Jessica’s friends, but she could be serious when she wanted to. Out of her friends, she felt that she could trust Taeyeon the most since her other friends were goofing around almost all of the time. She would confide in her whenever something was bothering her or when she needed someone to talk to at the time.

“What’s up Jessica?” she asked as she took a sip of her water. The loud music in the background made it difficult to hear, but she could still hear her words.

“Nothing, I’m just trying to figure out what those idiots are planning.”

“Those two idiots? You mean Yoona and Yuri? They’re loveable idiots if you ask me. Why what makes you think they’re planning something?”

“They were talking with Tiffany and laughing, so something must be up.”

“Um, they could just be saying hi and stuff. Are you sure you’re not overreacting? Oh wait, it’s concerning Tiffany. Why am I so surprised?” she laughed and covered her mouth to hide her giggles.

“I’m about to smack you” Jessica glared at Taeyeon.

“Okay okay fine I’m sorry. Come on, let’s go sit at one of the tables, my legs are hurting.” Jessica nodded as she followed Taeyeon to a table. She was about to sit down before she realized that she had to text her mother to the time to pick them up. She fast walked towards her table and grabbed her bag before returning to Taeyeon.

“Why do you have your bag?”

“I forgot to text my mom when to pick me up with Yuri and Yoona.”

“Oh okay I see. I see Yuri calling me over at the photo booth. Hold up, I’ll be back.” Jessica simply nodded with her eyes glued to her screen. She wasn’t used to the touch screen keyboard on the iPhone and as a result she was very slow. Once she was done texting, she looked up, only to find that someone else was sitting at the table. That someone else was Tiffany Hwang. It would beneficial that the room was already dark, or else Tiffany would see a tint of red across her cheeks.

Jessica was shocked and immediately looked over Tiffany’s head to see Taeyeon, Yuri and Yoona at the photo booth giving her a thumbs up. She gazed at Tiffany, who pointed towards her wrist, which meant that she was asking for the time. Jessica flashed her screen, it was around 10pm. Tiffany gave a smirk before standing up and going someplace elsewhere. Once she was gone, Jessica stood up and walked towards Yuri, Yoona and Sunny.

“What the heck was that?” Jessica complained.

“What are you talking about?” Taeyeon replied innocently.

“Do not play the innocent game with me, you know exactly what I’m talking about.”

“I really don’t, sorry” she shrugged. She turned to Yuri and Yoona. “Do you know what she’s talking about?” she asked them in which they shook her head no.

“Dude you’re acting crazy right now. Come on, let’s take a group picture together” Yoona stated. Jessica sighed and nodded as she went to choose what props to pick for their picture.

“Guys it’s not her fault, Tiffany makes crazy” Taeyeon giggled which resulted in a shove from Jessica. They began to pose with props as the photographer gave the countdown. After the photo was taken, the photographer said to take a serious one together in which they did. As they waited for their photos to be developed, the party music stopped and shifted to a slow R&B song, Chris Brown’s ‘Excuse Me Miss.”

Whoa Whoa
Do do do do do
Yeah
Yeah

She felt someone tug on her wrist, pulling her in the direction of the dance floor. It was none other than Tiffany Hwang, and Jessica didn’t have time to react as she found herself in the middle of the floor. She took Jessica’s hands, and placed them on her hips. She then, wrapped her arms around her neck as they both swayed to the beat. Lord knows what was going on in Jessica’s mind during that moment. Her mind was going haywire, as she was concentrating on trying to control her emotions and making sure that she didn’t mess up the dance at the same time.

‘Stay calm Jessica, stay calm’ she chanted to herself.

“So how are you tonight?” Tiffany asked with a bright smile across her face. Jessica stared into those dark brown eyes, those dark brown eyes that shattered her barriers every single time, leaving her vulnerable. Though, her defense mechanisms would always make a recovery in some fashion, whether it would be through being silent or just distancing herself from Tiffany. She often cursed herself for doing this to Tiffany, as it gave off the vibe that she disliked her, or that she hated being around her. Of course, this was the opposite of how she felt towards her. She always enjoyed her company, even if Tiffany stopped by just to chat for a bit or just to give a simple ‘hi’.

“ Idon’tknowhatI’mdoingbutI’mokayIguess” Jessica sputtered incoherently but it seemed like Tiffany understood what the latter was saying and nodded as they continued to dance. She mentally smacked herself across the face for mumbling her words. If she had anyone or anything to blame, it would be her racing her heart. Her heart beat had increased, knowing that she was embarrassing herself. At that instance, her defense mechanism kicked in, as Tiffany she was about to twirl Tiffany, she let go and walked away in the other direction, leaving the girl she’s cared so much for, alone in confusion.

As Jessica was walking, Yoona stopped her. “Dude what happened? Why did you just leave Tiffany like that?”

“I don’t know…” she muttered.

“I was going to tell Yuri to come over to take a picture of you two but it was already before we had the chance. Did you get scared or something?”

“…” Jessica didn’t respond as she sat down on one of the empty chairs. She looked around the room  to find Tiffany, and found her now dancing with Taeyeon as the song continued to play on.

‘Wow Jung you really outdid yourself this time. Now she must really hate your guts’ she mentally kicked herself. Yuri arrived at the scene and noticed Jessica sitting down with a ‘not so happy’ expression. Yoona told Yuri about what happened and the girl shook her head.

“Well think about this way, at least you got the chance to dance with her. Heck, I didn’t even get the chance. Well, it’s not like I want one in the first place” Yuri placed her hand on Jessica’s shoulder. Jessica still had the same expression, as if she didn’t hear a word that Yuri said. Jessica was in deep thought, contemplating on what she should do next. She didn’t know how she would act around Tiffany in school now, especially after what happened.

“Cheer up dude; it’s not the end of the world. I mean from our point of view, it was the funniest thing in the world. Seeing you rush away like that” Yoona laughed uncontrollably. “We’re here for you though, just try to enjoy whatever’s left of the night.” With that said they left Jessica’s side and went to another table. Jessica was left alone to drown in her thoughts, until someone tapped her on the shoulder about 10 minutes later.

“Why did you leave?” Taeyeon asked and sat down.

“You’re like the millionth person to ask me that.”

“Jessica I’m serious. When you left, she looked so lost. Then she told me to just dance with her till the song ended.”

“I don’t know okay? I just don’t know. It just happened” she responded. “I’ve been kicking myself for like 10 minutes about it. I don’t know what do to Taeng.”

“Well, she’s sitting by herself right now. I suggest you go talk to her about it.”

“I can’t just go over there, she’s probably annoyed by me right now. I can’t blame her either. “ Taeyeon sighed after hearing Jessica’s words.

“Look I don’t know if she’s annoyed or angry but” she paused. “I know you care about her a lot, probably more than you should. You’re always going to care about her, whether she feels the same way or not. You’re stupidly in love with all of her flaws and positives. Bottom line is that if you don’t do something, you’re going to be bothered by it for the rest of spring break.” All Jessica could do was look down, processing what Taeyeon just said.

“If anything, just apologize sincerely. Let her know that you didn’t mean to do what you did. ”

“….I think I’ll do that Taeng. I just have to let her know, and then maybe I’ll feel relieved.”

“Then what are you waiting for? Get your butt over there” Taeyeon commanded.

“But wait, what if she-“

“You better go over there right now before I tell her everything.”

“Everything? As in-“

“Ev-ery-thing Sica, ev-ery-thing.” Jessica got off her seat and walked towards Tiffany’s table. Her heart was pounding, but she knew she had to do something, even if it as something as little as this. She then, tapped Tiffany on the shoulder. Tiffany was curious on what Jessica was doing there, but nevertheless, she turned towards her.

“Hey, I’m sorry about earlier. I didn’t mean to leave you there, or run away if it seemed that way. I was just really caught off guard, and my emotions were over the place.”

“It’s fine, I understand. I appreciate that you came over to apologize. I guess I was partially at fault for catching you off guard, but it was Yoona’s idea and I was down.” They both shared a quick laugh.

“Um, I guess I’ll see you at school.”

“Of course you will, where else would I go?” she grinned.

“Right” she chuckled. “I’ll see you then Tiffany, bye.”

“Bye Jessica!” Jessica walked back to Taeyeon with a huge smile on her face. It felt like a huge load was lifted off of her shoulders in a matter of minutes. She sat down next to Taeyeon, who noticed her friend’s brighter attitude.

“I’m guessing things went well?”

“It did.”

“Good, but you know that you have to make up that dance right?”

“I know, you know I will.”

“When?”

“Only time will tell.”
