I think the moment in Sweet Movie where one guy drinks another guy's piss-straight from the tap!-is the one moment in the film where I wonder why the hell am I seeing this. Not the unsimulated vomiting before it or the unsimulated defecating that followed. Not the scene earlier in the film, where the nude woman danced seductively in front of the pre-teen boys.

Not that I was offended. Well, I was offended, but that's not the point. The scene in the commune, in which all the bodily functions are celebrated, goes on for far too long. There's only so much shitting/pissing/vomiting one needs to see (if one needs to see it all) before the point is made. We are human, yes. Are depicting things people do on a regular basis-except maybe vomiting and consuming urine, but everyone gets their kicks somehow-worse than graphic, simulated violence? Which is more depraved? That Sweet Movie doesn't simulate these acts makes it more bearable to watch. If it had been faked, it would've been a depraved film rather than a film about depravity. There is a difference.

That said, I liked Sweet Movie, as far as someone can like a movie such as this. There are moments that will stay with me for a long time, like the sight of the candy and sugar-laden ship sailing down the river, with a giant replica of Karl Marx's head on its bow. Or the sequence of Miss World's travels while she is trapped in a suitcase. It is a film worth seeing, even as it defies people to see it.
