After quite a few days of self-convicted exile, Gokudera felt strange in a crowd of people. He skirted at the edges of the carnival grounds, looking for familiar faces and wondering if there was anything to be learned from this.. twisted reflection of a carnival. He wasn't sure what he wanted in the first place, not quite ready to face the ones he had tried to kill while being possessed, but still wanting to see them, if from afar. As for information-- what sort of useful information could a god damn carnival offer him?

Well, once he set his eyes on the ferris wheel, he knew.

If he'd get high enough, he could see the city from above and maybe even beyond. It was worth a try at least. Or so he figured.

He pushed past a group of people, running as he saw the clowns readying a seat to be taken up. Seat with someone already heading towards it. But it'd be better than waiting for the next one. He didn't recognize her at first. He'd seen her through the palm pilot only few times after all, and from behind, she looked like any other girl.

"Hey, you mind if I ride with you?" He paused throw away his cigarette - it would not endear him to anyone who'd have to sit beside him for all the way up and down again. His mask was hanging on his neck, a white half mask that had a pair of ears on top of it, picturing some sort of feline creature with black and amber stripes.

Lenalee eyed the clowns with mixed emotions. They, and the carnival itself, reminded her of Allen. But something about them also reminded her of akuma. They weren't natural, but so far they seemed harmless. And that's where the connection with akuma was severed. The exorcist slipped into the seat and held onto the bar in front of her until it stopped rocking. It was then that she heard someone call out to her.

"Gokudera!" Her smile was bright and instant, and also sincere. It was true that they'd only spoken a few times over the communicators, but she wasn't the type to forget a voice or a face. "It's me, Lenalee." Lenalee answered his request by scooting over as far in the seat as she could to make room for him. The discarded cigarette earned a disapproving frown, however brief. "Those aren't good for you." But any further lecture was forgotten as the wheel started and they began to rise.

"We should be able to see everyone from up here." She was still hoping that a certain swordsman would be among the crowd. But the ferris wheel was lifting them higher than even Lenalee expected. Her expression turned more thoughtful as she looked over at her companion. She was used to being in the sky, but what about him? The ride suddenly jerked, stopping them at the very top. Lenalee blinked and looked down at the carnival below. "Look!" She reached over for his sleeve before pointing at the ground below. "I think that's Allen. He looks so tiny!" Like a real beansprout. Lenalee can't help smiling at the thought. "What about you? Do you see any of your friends?"

"Oh, it's you..." Gokudera paused again, staring at the girl who had managed to catch his attention quite a few times through the network. She seemed kind and sweet, strong and fragile at the same time. And she was cuter off screen...

The clowns were gesturing at him, and the shouts of annoyance got him eventually moving. He sat beside her carefully, throwing her a small, a bit awkward grin. "I don't smoke because it's good for me," he muttered as the clowns were pulling down the safety bar. He glanced up, brows pulling into a small frown as he turned his gaze down at the mechanism of the safety bar, fingering it for a moment quietly.

"Uh... yeah," he finally turned to look at her properly as they began to rise. "That's right. I was thinking that from up there I could see the whole city and possibly beyond. I tho-oough-- " The cart came to a swinging halt and he grabbed the bar hard enough for blood to escape his knuckles. They were really high, he'd break more than a wrist if he'd fall down from here.

But Gokudera wasn't afraid, no - of course not! Once she reached over, the cart made another swing and he gasped a little, but made sure to look exactly where she was pointing at. "Allen's one of the exorcists, too?" he asked glancing at her curiously. She had quite a few friends in this place, but for some reason that didn't surprise him at all.

"There's... Badou, there," he released the bar with one hand - even if he didn't want to - and pointed at the crowd near the carousel. "The tall redhead. Not easy to miss, heh. He's not from my world, but..." Not a friend, how could he call a friend someone he had tried to kill? But Badou wasn't a stranger, either. Because for some reason cigarettes and attempted murder had brought them strangely closer. "...but he's someone I know."

"So why do you do it?" Smoke. Lenalee tilted her head with the question, her attention turned towards him for the moment. It was hard to keep her eyes from the view though. It was even harder to keep herself from commenting that if something did happen, she wouldn't let him fall. For some reason, some boys didn't like it when a girl promised to protect them. Lenalee couldn't say for sure that Gokudera was such a boy...but why endanger a new friendship? The best plan seemed to be to continue talking normally.

"He is. Daisya as well." She smiled and nodded her head to confirm the other exorcists. "Allen knows a lot about stuff like this, so we'll have to ask him what things are the most fun." He'd gotten on the ride for a purpose, but Lenalee knew he'd be disappointed with what he found -- or didn't find. But maybe he could still enjoy the ride and get at least something from the experience.

"Badou?" Lenalee repeated the name and looked to where he pointed. "I don't think I've talked to him." A faint smile returned to her lips as she rested back in the seat, which made it rock a little again. "In spite of everything, it's getting hard and harder for me to think of this as a bad thing." She was meeting people from other places, people that she liked. For most it wasn't worth the price that they had to pay. But for Lenalee, who'd always been defined by her friendships, who couldn't imagine a world without them...it gave her hope.

"Maybe your friend would like to ride the carousel with us next." She leaned forward to rest against the safety bar. "Or we could try and find some treats. You can bet if there's anything good, Allen's already found it!"

"Habit," he muttered. Not quite just a habit but he wouldn't be admitting aloud to her that he kept one smoking also because he used it to light the explosives he carried with him all times. If he'd feel like giving into a bout of vandalism, flame was right there waiting for him. So convenient.

He nodded slowly as she told him about the exorcists. They seemed like an interesting crowd. At least Lenalee and Daisya were okay. Girly looking guy, Kanda he'd never seen and this Allen, however small he was at the moment, didn't seem like a troublemaker. Maybe. Well, for what it was worth, maybe they'd need some troublemakers here.

He bit his teeth together as the card swung back and forth again, but refused to feel scared since she didn't seem even slightly worried. He couldn't just be the weaker one, could he? But when she leaned forward against the safety bar, he was reaching out instinctively, as if to catch her if she were to fall.

"Hey! Be careful. This thing doesn't look all that safe, ya know."

Always fretting, Yamamoto would have laughed at him and said he was a worrywart. But Gokudera didn't care. It was better than trying to think really fast while on his way down to the ground, face first and quite possibly facing another death sentence.

"Lets wait for the treats and all that until we're safety on the ground, yeah?"

Lenalee was alarmed when he cried out and reached for her. But then she heard his reasons for it and couldn't resist a faint smile. She tried to make it as sheepish as possible. "You're right. I'm sorry, I forgot where I was for a second." She nodded her agreement to his last words, which made her think more and more that he wasn't comfortable on the ride.

"Tell me about your world, Gokudera." Maybe she could distract him until they were moving again. She could hear the sounds of repair from below, clanks and metallic sounds that weren't exactly comforting either. "What do you do there? And some of your friends are here too, right? What are they like?" Lenalee leaned back in the car again, but was careful to stay as still as possible. "Do you have parents? Siblings?" He might be annoyed by how many questions she was asking, but she found that she was genuinely curious as well.
