In a fantastic not-surprise, I was informed yesterday that our store will be closing down. On Saturday, the 28th (yes this is less than two weeks away). I get to know because I'm full-time and a manager, but the rest of the staff is still unsuspecting and will remain so for as long as possible. I might be transferred to the store at Gwinnett Place Mall, but to be honest, I don't think Gwinnett can support three full-time employees (me, Lance, and the one they already have).
To continue with the honesty, I saw this coming long away. Just from the sheer lack of help we've received from Corporate, up to and including transferring the Manager to Macon, then promoting Lance straight from MOD to Store Manager, with the bare minimum of training. I mean, yes he knows how to do all the paperwork, but there's a far cry between making schedules and actually running a store. And every time he asked, the regional would say, "Sure, you're doing just fine!"
I'm not too worried at the moment (nervous, of course), 'cause even if I don't get a transfer, I'll get a couple of weeks of severance pay, so I have some leeway to find another job. Thinking about it, it's a great opportunity to get out of the coffee business, where I've been stuck for the past 3 years. Now, off I go to apply at Borders...
