Summary: Natsumi reveals to Sakuno that she'll soon be joining her best friend at the apartments. And finds out that her big brother has been mean to Kikumaru.
Finally! Lunchtime. Natsumi practically dragged Sakuno out of the classroom away from all their classmates to eat lunch that day. There had been some very important news that she received that morning she hadn’t told anyone yet, not even her older brother. She was a little bit nervous but...very excited at the same time and she had to tell her best friend first. “Sakuno! I have to tell you! But it’s confidential so...” She scuffed her foot on the ground a little before she brightened up again. “You’ll keep a secret for me, won’t you?” She dropped to the ground and started to go through her bag.
Sakuno nodded. “Of course.” She’d keep this secret, whatever it was. It had to be something good for Natsumi to be so excited. She bit her lip, trying to think of what it could be. As far as she knew, nothing big had been going on with Natsumi lately. Granted, ever since Sakuno had signed with SevenLines, she’d been kind of busy and hadn’t had quite as much time to hang out with her friend. “What is it?”
Natsumi took a deep breath and pulled out an A4 envelope from her bag before she sat down on the grass besides it. She reached up and grabbed her best friend’s hand to tug at her so she would sit beside her. She smiled brightly and carefully opened up the large envelope and took out the stapled sheets of paper, holding them out. “SevenLines listened to my audition and they’ve agreed to sign me on for their next release.” She could barely contain her excitement. “Do you think...it’ll be okay?”
Sakuno grinned. “That’s great!” She cheered as she gave her friend a hug. “You’re going to have so much fun!” She let go of Natsumi and sat on the grass, looking at the envelope and papers the other girl was holding. “I told you they’d love your voice.” Brushing some hair out of her face, Sakuno went quiet for a minute. “Ano, what’s Oishi-sempai think of it though?” Obviously Sakuno was excited but there was another person who would have an important reaction to this news too.
With the mention of her brother, Natsumi’s face fell slightly. “I...I haven’t told him.” She chewed on her lower lip nervously for a moment. “Actually, I haven’t even told him I was auditioning. I don’t know if he’ll be happy for me. But I’m pretty sure the company will tell him I’m moving in with him soon.” Green eyes stared down towards the pages in her hand for a moment before she looked back up to meet her friend’s gaze. “He wouldn’t get angry at me, would he...?” Maybe she should have included her brother more in her life but he always worried about everything. Worried about the first time she rode a bicycle, the first time she walked to school by herself. She was lucky that her best friend is the granddaughter of his coach otherwise he would never had allowed her to sleep out at a friend’s house so often.
“Eh?” Sakuno’s eyes widened. “But you said you told him and that he was happy about it.” Sakuno could see the nervousness in her friend’s expression though and she sighed softly. “Natsu-chan, I’m sure he’ll be happy for you.” Oishi-sempai was kind of protective of the green-eyed girl but he was still a kind and caring person. He just wanted what was best for his sister, that much was obvious to anyone who spent any time around the two siblings. “He’ll probably be really happy that you’ll be around and living with everyone at the apartments.”
“You think so?” She smiled and nodded again. With that she pulled her pencil case from her bag and picked out her favourite pen. All that was left was to go home, sit her family down and get her parents to co-sign the document and she would be ready to move in within about a week. Hopefully, Oishi would be happy to have his little sister living next door to him. Well, that’s what she managed to work out from the living arrangement part of this document. There was so much to go through and a lot of it was so hard to understand. “I haven’t really talked to him much since he moved out.” She smiled and leaned back a little bit. “It was fun when Kiku-Nii would sleep over though.”
“Of course.” Sakuno gave her friend a reassuring smile. “He’s been really busy lately,” she admitted. “But then, we all have. There’s been a lot going on with White Day lately. Plus, Kikumaru-sempai’s been really...” She bit her lip. “He got yelled at by Tezuka-sempai and was doing some sort of punishment for something.” At least, that’s what she’d been able to gather.
“EH?!” She sat back up, eyes widened. “Tezuka-sempai!? Punishment?!” Natsumi pulled out her phone and checked the last post her brother had made on his journal. There was quite a bit on there about him taking care of Eiji but she never thought he had gotten sick because of some kind of punishment. Well...he hadn’t been posting lately but she assumed it was because he had been so busy. “Shuu-Nii would never let anything bad happen to Kiku-Nii. They’ve been best friends for years now.” She blinked a few times and stared back towards her friend.
Sakuno shook her head. “Natsu-chan...Oishi-sempai was the one who came up with the punishment...” She looked at the ground, not liking to be the one to tell her friend this. “Kikumaru-sempai’s been looking really sick lately.” She hoped her basket of goodies had helped a bit. “He’s always out training or in his apartment.” It was kind of sad not having the Seigaku redhead bouncing around, though the others from SevenLines seemed to be more than willing to pick up that slack. “But I’m sure he’ll be better soon. He’s going to be excited to have you around, I just know it.”
“NII-SAN DID?!” Her eyes widened. It had to be the stress of the industry that had made her brother snap or something. She pulled out her phone and started typing a message. They were in the same school but it was hard to track her brother down amongst the sea of third years that were everywhere. Natsumi took a long breath and sighed. “He can’t have changed that much since he’s moved out...” She chewed on her lower lip again and glanced towards Sakuno. “I have so much packing to do too...” It was weird not having a big brother around to fuss over her.
“Yeah.” Sakuno remembered the pile of stuff she’d had to pack up and move. She was so glad her Daddy and his band had been free. “If you want any help,” she offered. She hadn’t had much time to hang around her friend lately and it’d be fun to hang out together again. “But Oishi-sempai seemed to really not like doing it,” she tried to defend the older sibling. “He...I think he was forced into giving Kikumaru-sempai that punishment.”
Green eyes stared down at her phone for a moment and sighed. There was no way he would do something like that to his best friend. They did everything together. “You’re right...and he’s looking after Kiku-nii now so...things have to be okay.” She nodded to herself as if that settled it and smiled towards Sakuno again. “Yeah. It would be nice to have some help moving in. It’ll be nice to be near my big brother again.” She smiled and stared up towards the sky. This was going to be such a great opportunity. What would it be like, working for a professional company already at her age.
“Are you looking forward to getting started with music?” Sakuno asked once her friend seemed to calm down a little. “It’s been a lot of fun so far.” She was happy with it but then, Sakuno had been wanting to enter the industry since she was little. Singing...when she was doing that, that was one of the few times she was actually really confident in herself.
“Un! Music and dancing...it all looks like so much fun. I’ve been watching music videos and their choreography looks like it would be so much fun to learn.” She fell backwards onto the ground and lay there on the grass, her long black hair splayed out over the ground. “You released a single last month. Is it embarrassing, having your photo everywhere like that?” She laughed..it must have been so strange, having those kinds of photos taken and knowing you’re in so many people’s houses.
“There are some of the guys that really seemed to like dancing,” Sakuno admitted. “And it’s really crazy to know that there are people I’ve never met out there listening to me singing.” She thought about the question for a moment. “I...ah, I hadn’t really thought about that though. That they all know who I am and what I look like.” Though, people kind of already had seen pictures of her all her life thanks to her parents and their careers. While she hadn’t exactly been the focus, she’d definitely been caught on camera more than a few times in her life.
“You’ve always been famous, Sakuno. It’s kind of hard to believe you’re my best friend sometimes.” She laughed a little as she lay there, one hand covering her face now to shield her eyes from the sun. “I wouldn’t want anyone else as my best friend though.” She tightened her grasp around her contract in the other hand and smiled happily. “You’ve been through so much already and know things about the industry.” There was so much to learn...it was a little nerve wracking but at least she’ll be taking this journey with people she trusted. “We should go to parties! A lot of parties and get to know everyone!”
Sakuno shook her head. “No, no. I’m not the famous one.” Those would be her parents. And she really hadn’t been to too many industry events. Her mother didn’t like dragging around a small child and half the places her father went were completely inappropriate for a young girl to go to. “And I really don’t know that much.” Maybe she was a little more familiar with being in studios but that was about it. And it didn’t make her any less shy of cameras. “But that’d be fun.”
Natsumi sat up and nodded excitedly. “We’ll have to sneak out though. Nii would have a fit if he knew I was going out to parties.” She laughed. Her brother really had to stop being such a stick in the mud and go out more often. That’s one of the reasons she liked Kikumaru so much. He brought out the fun in her brother...and to be honest...it made her happy to see her brother let loose like that and have a bit of fun. “Ne, Sakuno.” She turned and grinned. “Any cute boys living at the apartments?”
“Natsu-chan,” Sakuno said, shaking her head. “Oishi-sempai should know if we’re going somewhere.” And possibly escort them as well. Sneaking off to a party--that just screamed terrible idea. “Ano..” she blushed a little, thinking of the others are the apartments. “A few.”
The smile brightened as she reached out to grab a hold of Sakuno’s hands excitedly. They were going to be in an apartment with older boys. Surely some of them had to be interesting! Or even the boys their own age, really. “A few...? Sakuno! You can’t keep these things a secret! Anybody you’d go out with...?” She grinned and turned to watch her best friend curiously. This conversation...her brother would most definitely never approve.
“There...the boys,” Sakuno looked down at their hands. She took a deep breath and started again. “There are a lot of different boy.” Every type of boy. She blushed lightly. “There are a few...maybe. But-” she stopped again. “There are few of the guys that are already dating other people or have someone they really like.”
They were on their way to becoming superstars so it wouldn’t be a surprise that they were already dating people. When they weren’t they were probably already surrounded by fans. Natsumi laughed at the idea that her elder brother would be surrounded by fans. He was such a cute little dork. And he studied way too hard to be able to really date a girl. She grinned. “Anybody that you wish would ask you out...? I wouldn’t want to like the same boy as you...” He laughed.
Sakuno shook her head. There were a few that were really cute and charming but in an older brother type of way. And there was always Ryoma-kun...though he didn’t seem all that interested in her. “I don’t think that’ll be a problem though,” Sakuno assured her friend. Not with as many guys as there were running around at SevenLines.
Natsumi laughed again in response and nodded in return. “Well...if there are as many boys as you say there are...this is going to be so much fun.” Between learning dance routines, singing songs and meeting all the boys in the building, this was definitely going to be a very fun adventure and she was so glad that she was going to be a part of it. “I’m glad you’re going to be there too, Sakuno...it’d be so scary going through all that with just my brother around.”
“It’s not really that scary though.” Sakuno smiled again. “Everyone’s really nice and gets along so well.” Except for a few people but Sakuno didn’t feel the urge to mention them, especially since they weren’t really people she talked to anyway. “It’ll be fun always having you around. Who knows? We may even end up on the same floor and be just down the hall from each other.”
“Aaah that would be nice!” She smiled very brightly at that thought. To be able to live close to her best friend rather than having to run back and forth between their houses. It had been kind of lonely living at home without her brother and then Sakuno had moved away as well. Now she’d have both of them back in her life and Kikumaru nearby as well as a whole lot of other friends too. She rocked a little as she sat there. This was definitely the future that she has been wanting for a very long time now.
“It’s going to be so much fun.” Sakuno brushed some of her hair out of her face again. “I can’t wait.” So exciting. This was just perfect. Music and Natsu-chan. Sounded like the start of a grand adventure. She laughed a little and decided that yes, this was about the best news she’d ever heard outside of her own acceptance by SevenLines.
