[log] Gakuto & Bunta

Who: Mukahi Gakuto & Marui Bunta
Rating: G
When: After Gakuto's post about Oshitari.
Where: Bunta's room.
Summary: After telling Gakuto to come down, he does and they end up talking for a while.

Gakuto sighed. All this Yuushi crap going on. He needed to see someone. He’d have gone and bugged Ryou but he felt like maybe his best friend deserved a break. Jirou was probably sleeping. Eiji was going nuts with all the training he’d been assigned by his doubles partner. But Bunta was free. “Hey, wanna let me in?” Gakuto asked as he knocked on the redhead’s door.

Bunta looked up from where he sat on the couch. He knew that Gakuto might show up from the texting. “It’s open.” he called out for the other redhead. “Come in.”

Walking in, Gakuto found Bunta on the couch. “Hey,” he said, plopping down on it next to the redhead. “Thanks for letting me come by.”

“‘Course.” Bunta focused his violet eyes on the other redhead. He lowered the sound of the tv. “Want to talk about it?” After a moment, he added, “or do you need to but don’t want to?” There was a difference after all.

“That one,” Gakuto nodded. He knew he needed to vent to someone but he didn’t really want to. It was stupid and he just wished this whole thing had an end. He was getting sick of always being yanked around by Yuushi and the guy’s stupid whims and decisions. It wasn’t fair.

“You’re free to talk about it all you want.” Bunta got out of his seat on the couch. “But you’re the one deciding if you want to. Or need it too much.” He walked over to the kitchen, taking up a box and taking it back with him to where Gakuto was sitting. “Cookie?” he offered, taking the lid off the box, showing its contents.

Bunta knew him so well and they’d only known each other for a short time. “Gladly,” the redhead with a sweet-tooth said, taking a couple. “I just...I hate how this keeps happening.” Gakuto sighed and took a bite out of one of the cookies. “This isn’t the first time Yuushi’s done this kind of crap.”

Bunta placed the box between them, quite far in, so that it wouldn’t fall off and onto the floor. “I don’t get how you can put up with it.” he said, taking a cookie as well. “If he’s doing it over and over.”

“I don’t know either.” Gakuto took another bite of his cookie. “But I am sick of it. I hate feeling like this...” It sucked and he felt like he couldn’t get away. “You guys have seen how it works now. He does something special, like that whole serenading thing. Then he does something shitty, like forget Valentine’s day. I ignore him until I start missing him. We start getting along and then he fucks things up.”

“He should hold his promises.” Bunta nodded, as if it made his words come out more clearly. But really, what Oshitari was doing to Gakuto was just plain mean. As if he wanted to hurt him or something. “Or not give any at all. You should really try to get over him. I don’t know if living like this will make it harder or easier, though.” He really wasn’t sure which one it was. Harder because it gave Oshitari more time and opportunity for his trickery. Trickery on a whole different level than that of Niou’s. Maybe easier because it would get Gakuto used to him being around and maybe it would be less.. of a big deal if they run into each other? ..Well, he didn’t really know, but something. He didn’t really want to only see bad things with it. But he didn’t want Oshitari to continue with these manipulations.

“I think,” Gakuto finished his cookie, “that that’s what makes it so hard for me to actually get away from him. Because sometimes he does keep his promises.” It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried stopping liking the blunette or that he hadn’t tried getting over the guy. It was just so hard and really, any time he’d gotten close and had started to bounce back, Yuushi’d shown up and done something that started the whole process over again.

“He’s still a jerk though. He shouldn’t promise what he can’t hold.” Sure, it could be hard to keep promises, but you should at least try as hard as you can to keep them. It was obvious that Oshitari wasn’t doing that. “I’d like to punch him, but, well..” He wasn’t that strong. Sure, you had to have some strength if you was mad enough to join the tennis team at Rikkai, but it wasn’t the same as just hitting someone. Or fighting. He didn’t know any of that at all.

“Ryou’s definitely going to do that,” Gakuto told the other redhead. He’d given his best friend permission to punch Yuushi for him a long time ago, before the move even. “I think I need a life evaluation.”

“Good. Teddy bear’s doing something right.” Bunta nodded. He knew that Shishido and Gakuto were close friends, but it felt good to know that the brunette would do that for his friend. He thought about that evaluation. “Well, maybe..”

Gakuto snickered at the nickname for Shishido. “He’d hate you if he heard you call him teddy bear.” The only Shishido let Gakuto call him so many different nicknames was that the guy knew that Gakuto’d keep doing it no matter what. “You know, figure out what I’m doing wrong and try to fix it so I’m not all...” he sighed unhappily.

Bunta smiled at the small laughter that Gakuto gave. “Well, he already knows I’m calling him that. Pisses him off, but that makes it even more fun.” He pursed his lips at that last sentence, thinking. “Tell him to stop what he’s doing. That you’ve had enough. I know it’ll be hard to do that, but I suppose that’s what you’re doing wrong. Letting him into your heart again, even though you know he’ll just hurt you more.”

“My whole reason for living,” Gakuto grinned, meaning the part about Shishido. “He was a grumpy little brat and I decided I needed to make his life fun and interesting because no one else was going to.”

He curled up on the couch. “I know I need to but...” Gakuto sighed. “Yuushi’s special. He’s the first person who I’ve let myself actually like. And even though he never wants to actually date, I guess I’d rather just deal with his crap than not have him around.”

“Good to know.” Bunta said, thinking about the friendship between Gakuto and Shishido. He could picture it, even though he didn’t know why no one else attempted to make Shishido’s life more fun. Maybe it was the grumpyness or something, but really.

“Even if he is..” Everyone had someone who was the first they liked. But if that person was as bad as Oshitari.. “I think you should end it. Not that I should make your decisions, but.. It’s easy to see that you’re not feeling well about it.”

Gakuto sighed again. “I want to but I don’t. If Yuushi’d quit all this crap, I’d be okay. But I’m not sure how much more of it I can deal with.”

“You think he’d stop though?” Bunta asked. He pulled up his legs on the couch. “He’s just pretending like nothing’s wrong. You shouldn’t even allow yourself to take things like this.”

“Well, if he’d stop doing things he knows will make me upset and all jealous and crap...” Gakuto shifted, trying to get into a comfortable position. “I mean, all it’d take is for him to say ‘Gakuto, date me’ and things would be okay. That’s it.”

“Don’t. I don’t think it’d get better even if you got together. He’d still do the same thing.” If he was like that already.. he wouldn’t get better because he was dating him. Changing a person was hard. “You got to get over him.”

“And how am I supposed to do that?” Gakuto made a frustrated noise. “The times when I’ve tried to and have gotten close, he pops back in and ruins all that progress.”

“Don’t let him. Tell him to stop before he can do anything. That you don’t want him to do this to you anymore.” Bunta leaned his head against the back rest of the couch, slight frown on his face as he looked at Gakuto. “If you can’t do it yourself, you know there’s people who’ll help you through it. The only thing this does is hurt you.”

“I don’t want him to go though. Because as crappy as some bits are, when he’s being nice and things are good, they’re really good.” Gakuto frowned. “I feel like I’m just making excuses but its true.”

“But why can’t he be nice all the time?!” Bunta snapped, getting quite a bit annoyed. Because yes, he was just making excuses. “He’s still treating you like crap, and you don’t deserve that! Sure, you can tease the person you like, but there’s gotta be some limit to it, and clearly he’s not seeing that!” He hadn’t intended to yell at Gakuto, but when just simply talking wasn’t helping at all...

“I don’t know.” Gakuto shifted how he was sitting, now hugging his knees to his chest. He hated how everyone kept yelling at him about this. They always yelled the same thing. That Gakuto was being stupid and shouldn’t let Yuushi keep getting away with everything Gakuto let him. He just wanted some quick easy solution, one that ended up with him happy. Yuushi made him happy. But Yuushi was the one that kept making him depressed like this too. “How do I make him see it then?”

Bunta sighed. He didn’t mean to get angry at him, really, but it was hard not to. He wrapped his arms around the other redhead in a hug. “Have you told him? Directly? That you don’t like what he’s doing?”

Gakuto rested his head on the other guy’s shoulder. “Any time I try, he manages to distract me.” He sighed. “Or he acknowledges it but manages to twist it around so that I feel guilty about the subject.”

“Not your fault.” Bunta told him. “Maybe it’s better if you’re not alone with him when you tell him. Because clearly he doesn’t seem to see just how much he hurts you, since he manages to turn it and that.” Well, that, or he just didn’t care.

“You think?” Gakuto lifted his head. “But I feel stupid needing someone around to help me fix my problems.” They were his issues and he didn’t want to drag someone else into the situation. Besides, needing someone else around made him feel like he was weak and absolutely needed someone to lean on and use as a crutch.

“I think so, yeah.” Bunta nodded. “And it’d just be to make sure he can’t turn it over and blame you, or do anything. The talking’s gotta be by you in the end. You just need enough time and help with making sure he’s not gonna pull you into it again.” If someone was going to end it, it would have to be Gakuto himself or it wouldn’t help the other redhead much in the end.

And there in laid the problem. Because as crappy and depressed as Gakuto felt at times, he really liked Yuushi. If things could just work out with them, he’d be happy. There was no need to end things, not if there was a way that could just fix them instead. “Maybe...”

“You should give it a try, at least.” Bunta gave the other’s shoulders a soft squeeze, still having them wrapped around him in a hug.

“I’m scared.” The words just slipped out but even as he spoke them, Gakuto knew they were true. Truer than just about anything else he’d said. He was scared. He was afraid of getting hurt and despite Yuushi doing things that made him sad, it was a familiar kind of hurt now. He knew what to expect and how to deal. If he ended this situation with Yuushi...Gakuto wasn’t sure what he’d do. How to handle a world where he wasn’t wrapped up in the blunette.

“You have all the right to be.” The older of the two redheads told him. It was alright to be scared, and understandable. From what he’d understood, Gakuto had been.. involved with Oshitari for quite some time now, so it wasn’t weird that he felt like that. “It’s okay to be scared.”

“I just want someone to fix everything and make it all better.” Gakuto rested his forehead on his knees. “If you were me, what would you do?”

Bunta was silent for a while, thinking Gakuto’s words over. If it had been him.. he’d probably be heart broken. And the same as Gakuto. Bunta could see that Gakuto was hurting, real bad, but was hesitant to do anything. “I’d.. want help with it, too.. I can’t say for sure, since I haven’t been in this situation, but.. the best thing would be to ask for help.” Because doing it all by himself didn’t seem to be working.

But asking for help was about the one thing Gakuto didn’t want to do. Asking for help made it feel like he couldn’t handle his own demons, his own problems. And he could. Really.

Bunta could feel that Gakuto didn’t want to. Yes, the other was strong, but dealing with this sort of thing.. was too much, would be even for him. He gave the other redhead’s shoulders another squeeze before speaking. “Even if you’re strong.. It’s not weak to ask for help once in a while. It’s the opposite. I think it’s strong to admit that you need help sometimes. We’re only humans, we can’t handle everything by ourselves, we don’t work that way. Don’t care about your pride.”

Gakuto made a face. He couldn’t even remember how many times people had told him things like that. Still never changed the way he felt about it all. “Where’s a magic life-fixing fairy when you want one?” He asked his knees.

Bunta gave a small laugh at that. “It’d be so convenient if one could just come here and set it right.” he said.

“Probably too convenient,” Gakuto sighed. “And that’s why its in hiding from me. How am I going to last through White Day?” He’d been avoiding Yuushi and the guy hadn’t really been around that much either. On White Day, though, they’d have to see each other.

“Make sure to be close to Shishido, or not to get alone with him.” Then Oshitari wouldn’t have as much opportunity to do something. He thought it over for a while. “You should definitely not be alone with him.”

Gakuto lifted his head, rolling his eyes. “Because I’m so sure that Ryou’d be all happy to have me hanging off him all day, what with the spectacle we made at the last fanmeet.”

“Ask him nicely?” Since it was pretty clear what Shishido thought about this whole thing, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.. “You don’t have to hang off him, just.. make sure to have someone near.”

“Me? Ask nicely?” Gakuto snorted in amusement. If he tried being all nice and polite to Shishido, the guy would probably freak out. Though that freak out would be hilarious to see...

“Well, at least try not to be rude at the same time as you ask him?” Bunta still thought it was better if he avoided being alone with the blunette. He just hoped that wouldn’t happen, because they would be at the same place during that day.

“I’m not rude to Ryou,” Gakuto pouted. “I just make his life interesting.” Besides, they’d known each other long enough that there wasn’t really a rude or a polite.

“Well, not rude but not nice, then?” Bunta asked. “Just ask him normally.”

“Then I’d owe him another favor.” Gakuto frowned. He still did owe Shishido that one to-be-named favor. The thought of owing another...he shook his head. Yeah, didn’t want that.

“So what? You already know he cares enough to want to hit Oshitari for what he’s doing.” One or two wasn’t much. He didn’t even know how many he owed Jackal by now. Probably way too many.

“He’d only hit Yuushi because he knows I wouldn’t do it myself,” Gakuto pointed out.

Bunta looked him in the eye. “But he still cares.”

“Dunno why.” Gakuto put his forehead down on his knees again. “All I do is harass him and make his life hell.” There were times when Gakuto really didn’t understand how or why he and Shishido were still friends. By all rights, they should probably hate each others guts with as much as they bickered and teased each other.

“Friendship is weird like that.” It was practically the same with him and Niou. Niou did his best to play loads of tricks on him, and he got annoyed, making Niou play even more tricks. But still they managed to be friends. Sort of. It was really just weird.

Gakuto looked over. “You got a friend that’s like Ryou’s my friend?” He didn’t really know his fellow redheads. They’d just connected and got along. He was quickly growing attached to them but Ryou’d always be his number one, best and closest friend.

“Niou.” Bunta answered with a slight smile. “He gets on my nerves a lot of the time, but he’s still my friend. Weird as it is.”

“So I guess he’s like me.” Gakuto gave a small smile. “You can never get rid of him either, I bet.”

“Yeah. I’ve sort of gotten used to it now, so it feels sorta weird when he’s not playing any tricks. Makes me think he’s planning something.” And more often than not, that was the case.

“Not quite the same.” Gakuto grinned, remembering the plans he and Shishido had talked about doing back before the move. “Ryou and I just plot awesome things together.” That rooftop celebration still sounded like a lot of fun. Maybe in a few months, after it got nice and all this craziness was done and over with.

“Just almost, then.” Bunta laughed. “We plot things together as well, but most of the time it’s him coming up with ways to prank me.” He thought of that particular time when Niou had actually managed to trick him into thinking something he shouldn’t eat was candy. What, the redhead had been tired and not really paying attention. And low on sugar. “Ugh, spiders..” he shuddered at the memory.

“Bad memory?” Gakuto asked. He could understand those. Fears sucked and he’d die if anyone found out about his claustrophobia. Well, Ryou knew but that was because Ryou was special. And Jirou. Of course Jirou knew. There was no way he’d let anyone else know though.

The older redhead laughed, nodding. “Well, could say that.” But he still couldn’t hate Niou. Well, he disliked him for that thing, but he didn’t hate him. It’d take way more than that to do it, which was sort of weird. It did involve the creation of a great fear, after all.

“Bad memory?” Gakuto repeated, being cheeky.

Marui snorted with laughter, doing just the same as Gakuto. “Could say that, yeah.”

He didn’t say anything right away. Finally, a soft “thanks” came from the direction of the smaller redhead. Gakuto was actually feeling a little better. He hated being lectured but having some of that off his chest helped.

Marui gave a soft smile at the other boy. “You’re welcome.” Giving him a last squeeze around the shoulders before pulling away to sit normally in the couch again.
