Any photoshop geeks on my friends list?

So, I have the best christmas present idea ever, and all i have to do is make a shirt on cafepress. However, I want to do it on a dark colored shirt, which requires creating a transparent image - one where the white isn't the background, and there aren't those damn halo things around all the objects. It is a simple design, and I've been putzing with the image in ms paint, but I have come to the conclusion that my software is a limit I cannot overcome and I need help. Anyone have the free time? And the ability? I would greatly appreciate it. And if, on cafepress, it managed to sell to other people, I might share... =)
