Appearance: One of the darkest wines I've ever seen. High glycerin content evidenced by prominent "legs".Clear, very deep purple color.

Nose: high alcohol, prominent wood, some spices. Very similar nose to Turley wines. So this should be interesting viz. a viz. the relative price points.

Taste: Can't tell the difference from Turley! From recent ( Read more... )

May I ask what legs are? The nice things I learn from your wine posts are limited by my lack of wine vocabulary.

I'm sorry to be so tardy with this reply. My daughter was home for my father-in-law's funeral. She's back in Scotland now.

"Legs" are those long viscous drops that run down from a former surface level as a wineglass is tilted back and forth. It indicates something of the character of a wine.

If you have a World Market near you and want to learn what $50 boutique wines from California are like, try this Jade Mountain syrah for $7.99. You may not like it, but the experience is educational at minimum cost.

Homeschooling for the teacher.

I'm very sorry for your family's loss.

We do have a World Market. I unsuccessfully shopped for red lentils there one day. We'll look for your Syrah. My foster father used to say "the day you stop learning is the day you might as well be dead." I appreciate all the help staying alive I can get.

How do you use red lentils? I'm always looking for new recipes.

I slow cook them in enough chicken stock to make a soup with dried apricots, roma tomatoes, some onion-- spiced with a little cumin, garlic, coriander, and black pepper. Not a very precise recipe, I'm afraid. I've been making it for so long that now I just throw it together until it smells right.

I think I got it from "Please to the Table". http://www.amazon.com/Please-Table-Anya-von-Bremzen/dp/0894807536/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1255980439&sr=8-1

Sounds North African. And good. This wine would go well with it too.
