What's shakin' on a Thursday

Will's lower back started seizing up on him last night; he hasn't done anything unusually strenuous, just his regular exercising routines and such, so we can only conclude that he's succumbing to work stress. He came home midday today and spent the afternoon on the sofa with the heating pad; he's already decided to bail on work tomorrow, and is ( Read more... )

Yes, I know exactly what you mean about the not getting to bed thing. It doesn't help if I wake up in the night with a bad dream either.

Well, I'm having no problem getting to bed, I just can't sleep when I get there. Driving me insane! I had to laugh out loud at that menu. Surely, she didn't request those items and that's just what people offered to bring, because HA! Italian? Mexican? Very odd. Onion dip from scratch, on the other hand sounds yummy! Have a good weekend, dear!

LOL!! Well balanced diet indeed :)) Although, there's LETTUCE in the Taco Salad, isn't there :)))

(To be honest, I've no idea what ziti or Spanish rice are, but anything with bacon can't be good for you and even less for kids)

What I've noticed is that kids eat melon (okay, there's not much nutritional value there at all, but at least it's not BAD for you either), cherry tomatoes, carrot sticks and our cardboard tasting home made popcorn (just a drop of oil, no salt to speak of) until they run out.

Ziti is a large-tube pasta, cut into, say, 2-3cm lengths. It is often tossed with a tomato sauce and Italian cheeses and then baked.

Spanish rice is rice cooked in a tomato base with some spices, I believe (or, rather, that's the American interpretation) - here is a sample recipe. Never heard of it being served with bacon, though. :P

I am constantly reminded how grateful I am that my children LIKE vegetables - almost any kind. Two always eats her veggies first, in fact. They both love all fruits, too, but that's not as uncommon.

Re the sleep: Yep, I do that a lot - in fact I very rarely feel like going to bed at a reasonable hour.

Hope Will's back is better!

I really love it when L gets "seriously" interested in some new scientific thing, too -- that's almost the most fun I have, discussing something like that with her, watching her learn and figure things out and put it together with things she already knows, drawing conclusions and such.

And, randomly, I was obsessed with the Mariana Trench as a kid. I no longer remember why exactly, but I knew where to find it on a map, and how deep it was, and all those sorts of things.

Tonight's Fun Educational Facts involved Presidential longevity. After asking how old Mary Todd Lincoln was when she died (she had asked about Abe's age the other day), MiniPlu wanted to know which president had lived the longest. Amazingly, I hit on the right Google keywords right off the bat, and the answer is: Gerald Ford, at 93 years, 163 days, beating out Reagan (93y 120ish days). Interestingly enough, third place goes to ... our second president. John Adams' only other competition came from Hoover, who lived a few days less (90 years and change) - otherwise, he held the Longest-Lived title for nearly 200 years. Pretty amazing ( ... )

Huh. That is interesting. I'll have to tell my guys. Although I may then have to go onto Youtube to find vids of Chevy Chase being Ford :)

Here is the chart I used, in case your guys want more Presidential trivia. :D (It's Wikipedia, so take with a small grain of salt, but since this birth/death/inauguration dates are fairly easily verifiable, I'm going to assume it's correct.)
