I was just getting ready to post my own "Books I Read" list -- mine's a lot shorter than last years, which is weird, because I feel like I've actually read more... huh.
Oh, and I didn't realize there was another book in the Jouster series (or whatever it's called) out... I actually thought Sanctuary was the end, 'cos the story could, conceivably end there, and it would go along with the whole 'fantasy trilogy' tradition, but I guess not. Shall have to keep an eye out for it. I think I'm getting more irritation rather than enjoyment out of this series (find the characters' motivations -- and a lot of the other stuff, too -- overexplained, and the characters largely uncompelling) -- but, dragons! And I want to know how it all ends.
I'd say 80% of what comes out of her mouth right now is a whiny protest to something.
Oh god -- L's like that, too. I'd pay good money for selective earmuffs that would filter all that out. Would be a lot quieter round here too...
A friend of mine told me about the fourth-in-the-trilogy Lackey book - I just got it out of the library. I guess she discovered after "Sanctuary" that she still had more to say. So far I've loved the first book best, but I'd like to see what else there is. It's nice to sometimes read a fantasy book that's not set amidst castles and such.
I also liked Joust better than the sequels -- partly because I don't think the extended cast of characters contributes much beyond what was already being invested in Vetch/Kiron and Ari, but mainly because, I think, the "slave boy and his dragon" story is just that much more compelling than "plucky band of heroes takes on U.S. Congress the Wise Ones, or whatever they're actually called," at least in Lackey's execution.
I also thought the pacing of Sanctuary was pretty bad -- normally, Lackey's books are quick reads for me, but this one didn't start holding my attention until the last fifth or so. Still, I will have to check out Aerie.
I need to do my book post, too, although I didn't read nearly as much as you did. Sigh. I was really hoping I'd get at least into the twenties, but I think I'm one book short. Alas. :))
