Today I tag spiffikins.
This morning I had to haul myself out of bed shortly after 5am (having been out of bed four times in the night, thank you magnesium citrate :P) to throw on some clothes and drive 30 mins to the hospital for the capsule study. This involved - after all the intake crap - swallowing a tiny camera imbedded in a large-ish capsule and then, for the next eight hours, wearing a bulky padded belt (which was receiving the signal from the camera) and a recorder in a harness thing, which were connected to each other by wires. One of those wires had to go over my head. The harness loop was initially put over my head, too, but it was heavy and I eventually hung it more like a cross-body bag, which worked waaaaay better.
It had been implied that my actions might be somewhat limited while the capsule study was going on, so I had warned the librarian I might not come in, but the nurse who set me up said it should be fine, as long as I didn't bend over too much or do too much physical effort (ie running - but walking the dog was fine). So, I went home and slept another hour, then went to the library as usual. Came home, ate a finally-permitted light lunch (FOOOOD!), took another nap, chatted with the kids when they came home, then it was time to take the equipment back. And once the test was done I was allowed to eat whatever I wanted again. Not too bad, honestly - I mean, fasting is never fun, and magnesium citrate is HORRIBLE, but it's still easier than colonoscopy prep.
