Thank you to everyone who offered support and hugs to my self-pitying post the other day. ♥ Still struggling somewhat, but I've had a few better days lately. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday morning, the first 3-mile (~5km) run I've managed since I injured myself at the half marathon in early November.
I also bought a car! I didn't need to have one until July, when MiniPlu gets her license (and takes over my old Subaru) but the opportunity presented itself, so I went for it. It's a 2016 Mazda3 Touring (midrange trim). It's black, which is definitely not my favorite car color (or anything color except maybe dress shoes), but seeing as it's a secondhand car, it's not like I had much choice. And aside from the color, and the fact that I wish it had better leg room in the back seat (of small cars, only Toyota Corolla had decent rear legroom), it has all the features I wanted: blind spot monitor, manual transmission, a real parking brake (and not the stupid electronic brake), decent mileage, etc.
Here's a photo. It's not of my car, specifically (they've taken down the listing) and this pic is of the base trim level, but you get the idea. There are two minor dings to the bumpers (one center back, one driver's side front) but it's otherwise in perfect shape. Well, ok, there was a small tear in the "leather" around the gearshift, so they're repairing that. The part had to be ordered, and won't arrive until just before I leave for OR, so I just said I'd wait to take delivery until I came back. So - I have a new-to-me car to look forward to when I return from the Oregonian Arctic. :P
And speaking of, I'm still struggling to figure out what will be the best courses of action for my father. I feel like nothing is really going to work, but moving him seems like the worst possible action for someone with no short-term memory and a stubborn independent streak a mile wide.
Also, our dishwasher died on Saturday. We had someone out on Monday afternoon and we thought it was an easy fix (plastic fork tine jammed in the drain pump motor) but apparently that was only part of the problem because this morning it still wasn't working right and the repair guy had to come back. New parts have been ordered, but for now it means a lot of paper products, and a lot of handwashing for the many things where there's no disposable equivalent, like ... pots, serving utensils, measuring items, food processor/baking tins/coffeepot etc. My hands are so dry, they hurt.
So, not a perfect situation, but at least there's been some brighter bits.
Oh, and happy early birthday to
thistlerose!
