And ten days later...

Life continues to be kicking my butt, sigh. I seriously don't know why I'm having so much trouble keeping up with my online presence, but I am. I didn't even sub last week. Don't know if my kids are being more needy or what.

One of the things I've been trying to do has been find a new, local gastroenterologist and a new gyn, as I'm up for annual check-ins with both of them, and my old gastro's office said they won't renew my meds anymore. Because my husband still has his PA-based job, finding local places that take our PA-based insurance has been a little tricky. I've started by searching our insurance company's roster of permissible locations, but apparently that's not always a guarantee, as one gastro place said that they did NOT take my insurance and that perhaps they were listed because they maybe grandfathered in our insurance awhile ago, just not for new patients. It's not like any particular community is EVER crawling with gastroenterology offices, so my subsequent options are limited. I did find another, single-doctor office (the other was a group, like my old one) that WILL take my insurance but they won't take ME until I have a referral from my primary doc. Except I don't have a primary doc yet. So now I have to find a primary doc (who takes my insurance), go see him/her, and THEN get a referral for the gastro. Argh. Found a possibility (a completely random choice from my insurance's list) and gave them my insurance info. They're going to look it up and let me know if they'll take it. Have not yet heard back.

I did get an appointment with a gyn for this Thurs (first male gyn I've had; there's only one woman in this group practice, and apparently she's the most popular - I would have had to wait 2-3 months to get in with her, so I just decided to say "fuck it" and give one of the men a shot) but they have twice now failed to return a call I left with them, needing a release form so I can get my old gyn records sent to them. Not a very auspicious beginning, sigh.

Ugh, this is SUCH a pain, getting new practitioners for everything. I did at least discover a bonus to finding a smaller pediatrician practice. When I took in Two's camp health form today, they filled it out on the spot, rather than making me come back for it in a few days.

Had a number of very physically active days last week. On Tues I went to do my usual morning run on the treadmill, when I discovered I'd left my orthotics in my cruddy yard sneakers in my bedroom. Because Will was still asleep, I didn't want to wake him poking around for my shoes, so I chose to run in socks, no shoes, and ended up pulling the muscles in both calves, which were very painful for the rest of the week. In fact, by Thurs they still hurt enough that I only barely managed to run 1 mile, and then had to switch to walking. I still attended the church exercise classes I've been doing since January, both Tues and Thurs evening, then black belt class on Fri evening. Because Two had therapy the next day, I couldn't stay over in PA, just came home right after. Then the church class started 7am Sat classes recently, so I was up again early Sat morning to do that, and then spent most of both Sat and Sun doing yardwork - still slogging away at the fence and forthcoming veggie garden project (including buying and stacking a huge pile of 10kg/22lb edging stones). So, yeah, physically worn out. Which made it exceptionally stupid when I stayed up too late last night. Basically, as soon as Two was off to school this morning, I went back to bed for over 2 hours. Oops.

Last week was the "Enthusiastic Reader" award ceremony at the high school. It's still sadly ironic that MiniPlu won this award since she ISN'T an enthusiastic reader. (Everyone assumes that she is, because she's a good student. But, nope. She'll occasionally find a book or series she loves, but it's rare.) Anyway, I went to that, and had the privilege of hearing author Anna Quindlen speak. (Apparently her nieces attend the school.) She was both interesting and funny, key for holding teenagers' attention, and it was also good to hear that a professional writer can struggle just as much as us fanficcers do.

Speaking of books, tonight I finished the second Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates book: This was just as fun and charming as the first one, although I suppose it diminished the teensiest bit by not being "new" humor, if that makes sense. But I still really enjoyed it. I did figure out fairly early who at least one of the villains was, but I was surprised by the third villain. I also did figure out pretty early one of the other plot points, although not WHY I was correct in my guess. Still fun, though. I'll definitely read the next book in the series at some point.

A few days ago I bought the first Raven Cycle book, since I know so many of you raved about it (no pun intended), so maybe that will be my next book. I have so many on my to-read shelf, it's ridiculous. :P

On a totally unrelated note, my SIL just shared this with me. It's apparently from 2012 or something "ancient" like that, but I still laughed my head off.

For those straight men who are against gay marriage? Fine. Gay men will just marry your girlfriends.

(Which is much better news than the Kansas archdiocese declaring that Girl Scouts no longer are moral enough for them. *headdesk* )
