First, are any Brits or Scots on my list willing to give your views on today's vote regarding possible Scottish independence?
Next, a meme, gacked from

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
Uh. When I’m done with a book, I look for the books I received as presents or bought at used book sales, wherever they may be. Gift books are often still in a box or bag in my bedroom; used books are often piled (but not properly shelved) on the overfull bookcase. I also just open my Kindle and look for a) “recent” books - meaning I recently downloaded them and haven’t read them yet - or go through my categories if I’m not in the mood for those, and look for books I downloaded awhile ago.
Not a terribly organized system, but it works well enough. As for keeping track of books I’ve heard of but haven’t read or bought yet, that’s tougher. I often tend to forget about them.
Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?
Probably half and half, although at the moment I think I have slightly more e-books than print.
A Book That’s Been On Your TBR List The Longest
Hmm. I’ve been meaning to read Notes From a Small Island by Bill Bryson since 2008. I’ve wanted to read A Dance With Dragons since it came out, what, 2 or 3 years ago. Those feel rather recent, in some ways, but I can’t think of something that’s been on my mental list for ages and ages.
Oh, wait - I bought Wicked before going to get ... I forget which child. Two? That would have been early 2004. Anyway, never read more than the first chapter and never got back to it.
A Book You Recently Added To Your TBR
Just bought
The King of Attolia at the library’s used book sale yesterday; it appears to be the third in a series, but hopefully it’ll make enough sense on its own. :-P
A Book In Your TBR Strictly Because of Its Beautiful Cover
Whatever happened to “Don’t judge a book by its cover”?
A Book On Your TBR That You Never Plan on Reading
Uh, why would it be on my list, then? I admit I never planned on reading The Hunger Games series, but had it on my Kindle for reasons I won’t go into here. And then I read them anyway. Which only goes to prove my usual adage, “Never say never.” I would say that it’s not likely I’ll ever return to the Series of Unfortunate Events only because I was annoyed by them early on in the second book and stopped reading. I'm not sure I'll ever finish Wolf Hall, not to mention its sequel (both of which were gifts). And I’m not sure I’ll get around to reading all the classics (especially Dickens) on my list, but I have them there anyway, just in case, I guess.
An Unpublished Book on Your TBR That You’re Excited For
Quite a few! In fact, I put many of their anticipated publication dates on my phone, just so I’m ready. Blood of Olympus - the last Percy Jackson book (two more weeks!) - Mortal Heart (His Fair Assassin series), the sequel to Seraphina (spring 2015), a Mercedes Lackey book, Cassie’s “Dark Artifices” series, and probably more I can’t think of right now.
A Book On Your TBR That Basically Everyone’s Read But You
A Dance With Dragons? Divergent? City of Heavenly Fire? Honestly, though, I’m not sure any of those qualify. Even on my fantasy-bent flist, I don’t think there’s enough common taste in books for there to be an “everyone but you” book, unless it was Harry Potter. Which I’ve read. Repeatedly. ;-)
A Book On Your TBR That Everyone Recommends To You
I’m not sure ANYONE has recommended a book to me lately, unless you count GIVING me a book, but then that still is only one person, not “everyone.” Maybe Fire (Graceling series), which I’ve only just started reading?
A Book On Your TBR That You’re Dying To Read
Blood of Olympus and Mortal Heart, certainly, neither of which have been published yet. Am also really looking forward to quite a few books which were giving to me for my birthday (and even two still from Christmas). I just need all the rest of the world to go away so I can read!
How many books are on your Goodreads TBR shelf?
Not a Goodreads member. Is there a particular reason I should consider joining? I feel like the social media I'm already part of is enough of a timesuck as it is. It's why I'm not on Ravelry, either.
Also from
hamsterwoman,
a series of fascinating maps. I love maps, especially old ones, ones that show changes in borders or other historical information, or demographic sorts of things, like these.
Freaky experience on Tues night. TKD class was just starting when I noticed something scratchy on the side of my left thigh, like there was a burr in my uniform. I pulled it out and ... it was a
cicada (bug warning, if you're squeamish), and he was still alive. Not super-lively, but alive. WTF? I can only assume he crawled or fell in while the wash was drying on the line. Keep in mind I had done the laundry on Monday, so he'd been sitting in there for over 24 hours. Ick. Not only that, but then one of the men asked to take the cicada for his daughter. She's MiniPlu's age and very bright, so I assumed she wanted to study it. Nope - turns out, she's recently gotten into eating bugs (her advanced science class offers a choice of rewards: candy, or bugs), so Mr Cicada was likely going to become Mr Bedtime Snack. :-P
On a positive note, I took my last dose of steroids on Monday, YAY! So far, so good. Fingers crossed!
