Whine, whine, whine. And a Pope.

So, my head cold was getting better by yesterday - still a bit stuffy, but definitely better. I worked the library in the morning, swung by WalMart after lunch, took MiniPlu to her music lesson and had enough energy for TKD in the evening. I went to bed and ... couldn't sleep. Couldn't get comfortable. Achy. Spent a miserable night, took my temp in the morning and - yep, low-grade fever. I've spent today continuing to feel achy and miserable, although I went to the grocery store, got kids fed, made their lunches and took them to school because who else was going to? After spending most of the day on the sofa, also I went ahead and taught PREP - I had too much planned to hand over to a sub.

Having eaten, for the grand total of today, a banana, a can of chicken soup and a small cup of probably-outdated Jello, I got hungry enough to nosh on some dry cereal a little bit ago and promptly got heartburn for my efforts. I'm tired but there's no real point in going to bed early because I can be just as achy and miserable here on the sofa as I can in bed and at least this way I'm not merely tossing and turning.

I did get a testing sheet last night, so will be testing for my orange belt on Saturday, assuming I throw this bug off by then. Meanwhile, Will had a cyst get infected on his derrier, had to have it lanced and a drain put in today, and has been told to lay off exercise for a few days. He is not pleased. I pointed out that he can probably still get away with weight lifting. But we were supposed to run a 5K together (with his twin and both girls) this Sunday. MiniPlu didn't train enough, so she and Will will just walk while the rest of us run, but it still feels like it defeats the purpose of doing it together as a family, so we're both disappointed.

For all the issues MiniPlu has had at parochial school this year, it was - unintentionally - a great time to have her there. Where else would kids excitedly burst through classroom doors shrieking, "White smoke! White smoke!"? MiniPlu actually asked me to drop her off at home (normally we go straight to Two's school) so she wouldn't miss The Great Moment, live, on TV, rather than watch recaps later. Never seen a 10-year-old so excited about world news, so that was kind of cool. It was all kind of fascinating, the procedurals and history I read about, in the past month.

Speaking of reading, I finished Jane Yolen's "Girl in a Cage" tonight. It was ... eh. Not terrible but not fabulous and definitely not cheerful. It follows an intense but short period in the life of Robert the Bruce's daughter, as England's King Edward I tries to overrun Scotland. Marjorie is taken prisoner in a cage for a battle of wills with Edward. I'm trying to think what I want to read next - something more fun, but what?

(Also, since it's now 14 Mar in Finland - happy birthday to
kupukello!)
