[ Return to Karaka ]
IV.
Heading back into the snow covered woods; she looked up and left out a small sigh. It was beginning to get late and she just seemed to have stormed out of the house Ayame and her grandfather must be worried. Walking back the pathway towards the small village on the coast, she saw another young girl like herself along the trail now. The girl ahead had long blonde hair and wore a crimson red clock over herself. The young girl must’ve felt her gave on her for she turned and smiled at her and gave a friendly wave.
“Hello there.” said the girl as she approached Kirika. “Oh… are you her? That old mans granddaughter everyone is talking about?” she continued as Kirika simply nodded her head not really knowing who this girl was. Come to think about it she had never seen her around the village before which is odd considering how small Karaka is everyone knows everyone there.
“Um... If you don’t mind me asking but who are you?” Kirika asked in curiosity. The girls smiled and gazed at her with her blue eyes.
“My name is Freedert. I’m not a local of this village. However since my arrival I’ve overheard a lot of people talking. All about you too.” she replied with a smirk.
‘The villagers have been talking about me?’ Kirika thought with a start. She had done the one thing that everyone in Karaka had believed strongly against. She had left the village and had taken another home while in search for her grandfathers’ cure. Of course they would gossip about her. Her return to the village must’ve made the villagers believe she had failed in her quest and that she had come home in defeat.
“What were they saying?” she found herself asking Freedert suddenly. Freedert continued to look at her with that smirk of hers.
“Only that you’ve given up on your search. At least that’s what Miss Yokohama has been saying. However these days she’s been talking more and more about the other disgrace to the village. Oh now what as his name… Mikage?” she rambled on. Hearing that Mikage had become a disgrace to the village, she found herself outraged.

Before she knew what happened, Kirika had slapped the girl with her right hand. Realizing what she did she placed the hand in her left and held it near her chest.
“YOU HAVE NO RIGHT! TO TALK ILL OF HIM. HE ONLY LEFT BECAUSE OF ME AND THAT PROMISE WE MADE LONG AGO!” she yelled tears forming in her brown eyes. The girl who was now holding to her redden cheek, simply gave an angry glare at her and ran back down the path most likely to gossip about the incident that had just happened.
“I can’t believe I left myself get that carried away… The whole village must know by now.” she stated slowly as she gazed out at the ocean. It was then that she saw a small boat coming on to the harbor.
“Where’s that boat from?” she asked as her feet began to move down the pathway back into the small fishing village.
