2010 Fandom Meme

Jan 01, 2011 18:38

So I found this kicking around a few places and decided to give it a go. It’s a general fandom meme for the year, and was a good way to reflect on my year in fandoms xP

LOTS of pictures, because that’s how I roll :P

2010 Fandom Meme

Ten Favorite Characters of the Year (in no particular order):
-Kurt Hummel (Glee)

-The Eleventh Doctor (Doctor Who)

-Amy Pond (Doctor Who)

-Rory Williams (Doctor Who)

-Ianto Jones (Torchwood)

-Captain Jack Harkness (Torchwood)

-Roderich Edelstein/Austria (Hetalia)

-Toris Laurinaitis/Lithuania (Hetalia)

-Brian Kinney (Queer as Folk) (Yes, I just discovered it this year. I’m late.)

-Sanji (One Piece)

(Not totally surprising that there’s only one girl on the list, because I make no secret of the fact that I like staring at pretty men, but I DO find it surprising that there’s only one Glee character when I talk about Glee all the time. I guess it’s one of those ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ things!)

Ten Favorite Ships of the Year (both canon and fanon):
-Jack/Ianto (Torchwood)

-Amy/Rory (Doctor Who)

-Finn/Kurt (Glee)

-Santana/Brittany (Glee)

-Puck/Quinn (Glee)

-Zoro/Sanji (One Piece)

-Owen/Tosh (Torchwood)

-Toris/Feliks *Lithuania/Poland* (Hetalia)

-Kyouya/Kaoru (Ouran High School Host Club)

-Lucci/Kaku (One Piece)

(I’m obviously maturing because ALL of my favourite parings used to be slash, and now I have boy/boy, het, AND girl/girl on my list!)

Ten Favorite Non-Romantic Pairs of the Year:
-Kurt/Mercedes (Glee)

-Rachel/Kurt (Glee)

-Ianto/Owen (Torchwood)

-Doctor/Rory (Doctor Who)

-Quinn/Mercedes (Glee)

-Troy/Abed (Community)

-Roderich/Gilbert *Austria/Prussia* (Hetalia)

-Sanji/Usopp (One Piece)

-¬Alfred/Matthew *America/Canada* (Hetalia)

-Not a pairing, but just the Host Club in general

(Somebody mentioned once that it’s difficult to find a good boy/girl friendship on Glee where both characters are straight and there are absolutely no romantic undertones between them. I actually realized that when working on this list, because for a show with so many characters, there are very few platonic friendships! This list was also, overall, way harder to compile than the romantic one xP)

Three Favourite TV shows of the Year:
-Glee

-Doctor Who

-Modern Family

(Even though I never talk about it, I do love Modern Family. It’s even funnier because one of my students was Columbian and his mother spoke and acted almost exactly like Gloria!)

Your favourite book read this year:
-I’ve had no time to read this year, so I’ve mostly read Torchwood and Doctor Who novels. My favourite Torchwood novel, though, was probably ‘Bay of the Dead’ because Andy played a major part in it, and my favourite DW novel was ‘The Glamour Chase,’ because of all the wonderful Doctor/Rory interaction :)

Your favourite album or song to listen to this year:
-My favourite album was one of the only ones I bought this year, which was Lady Gaga (I don’t normally listen to that type of music, but I love her stuff).

I also listened to Blue Gillespie a LOT because it’s incredibly cathartic (and I was angry with a lot of people this year, for whatever reason xP). Other than that, LOTS of Glee :D And the American Idiot Musical Album, because I’ll take any Green Day I can get xP

Your favourite LJ community of the year:
-Gosh, I spend NO TIME in communities, so while I check for updates and such at gleeclub I’ve only really had discussions with people in finnkurt, because everybody over there is so welcoming and, unlike at the main Glee fandom, doesn’t bash characters the way some of them are wont to at times.

First Fandom of the year:
-Probably the new season of Who, just because it aired the earliest in the year and it’s the first series I’ve watched all the way through.

Your best new fandom discovery of the year:
-The only entirely NEW fandom I’ve discovered is ‘Hetalia,’ so definitely that! (Yes, I’ve watched other shows, but I really don’t consider something as one of my ‘fandoms’ unless I write fic on it xP)

Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year:
-Um, just…lack of continuity in SO MANY THINGS. Maybe it’s being a film student, but I’m noticing it more and more and just left shaking my head.
-Also, a certain event in One Piece that shall remain nameless. Because darn it, I don’t cry over fictional animated characters, but I adored him.
-Ouran ending. Not really a disappointment, because it had to happen eventually, but it always makes me happy so I’m sad that there won’t be any more new material to squee over.

Your biggest squee moments of the year:
-Glee: THE DANCE. THAT dance. You all know which dance I’m talking about.

-One Piece: The crew reuniting. I knew it was going to happen, but it was awesome when it did. Also Law coming back to help Luffy, because anything with Law in it is fine by me.
-Doctor Who: Again, I knew it was going to happen, but Rory coming back, because I love his character.

Favourite main character of the year:
-Kurt Hummel (Glee), even though he’s technically a ‘supporting character.’ But I love him to bits.

Favourite villain of the year:
-Sue Sylvester (Glee). Inasmuch as she can be called a villain. But when she is, she’s brilliant :)

Favourite het couple of the year:
-Amy/Rory (Doctor Who)

Favourite femslash couple of the year:
-Santana/Brittany (Glee)

Favourite slash couple of the year:
-Jack/Ianto (Torchwood). I spent most of the year writing ‘Hitting the Ground Running,’ so…

Fandom that you never expected to get into:
Two, actually:
-Doctor Who, because up until this year I had only watched sporadic episodes and didn’t like it as much as Torchwood, but I decided to give the new series a try and boy, am I glad I did. As is evidenced by this meme, I adore all three of the leads and can’t wait to see what they get up to next :)
-Glee, as much as I have. To be honest, when the pilot came out, my parents watched it and I didn’t because I didn’t *get* it. Then when it started airing regularly I watched it because they did, and it was okay, but nothing I looked forward to every week or anything. And then between the time it went on hiatus and the time it came back in April, I fell in love with it. I don’t know how it happened, but now I don’t know how I could have ever *not* liked it.

Fandom that made an unexpected comeback:
-Um, none, really…maybe Harry Potter a BIT because of the new movie, so I’ve been reading fanfiction, but that’s about it.

Fandom that inspired the most crack:
-Most crack-y stories? Probably Glee, because it’s inevitable with that lot there’ll be SOME crack even in a serious fic!

Last fandom of the year:
-Hetalia

Overall fandoms of the year:
-Glee

-Doctor Who

-Torchwood

Your main fandom of the year:
-Glee or Torchwood

The most missed of your old fandoms:
-One Piece. But it’s getting back to good :)

Predictions for next year:
-Kurt comes back to McKinley. Sorry. Had to get that out there.
-Tentatively looking forward to the new Torchwood series. I’m going to give it a chance, but since of course most of my favourite characters won’t be in there, I’m not 100% sure that I’ll like it. Maybe if I don’t think of it strictly as ‘Torchwood’ it’ll be better, but I dunno…
-Looking forward to the new season of Who, because those three are awesome and I need them back on my screen. The Christmas special was nice, but I need moar Rory.
-More good One Piece. Also, the dub SHOULD be getting to Water 7 sometime around June, so I’m also excited for that.

-That’s about it! Thanks for reading :D (Do it if you want to!)
Happy 2011, everybody!!!
