Okay, I'm glad last week was just a blip on the radar because Glee this week was back to being rather good.
HELP THIS INTRODUCTION WAS THE GREATEST THING.
BLAINE'S SMILE AT BEING CALLED A 'DEBONAIR HOMOSEXUAL'
ARTIE NOT BEING ABLE TO REACH THE COUNTER
THE SHEER AMOUNT OF 'YAY AMERICA' HAPPENING IN THIS SHOT.
Okay, so, onto the real episode.
I've never had a cronut. I just know a bunch of people got food poisoning from a cronut burger last year at the CNE in Toronto, so that kind of turned me off of them.
WELL HELLO I'D GET UP EARLY TO MAKE BREAKFAST TOO IF THIS WAS WAITING FOR ME IN THE BEDROOM. Look at his tiny little waist
Yup I can relate.
So Blaine still doesn't live with Kurt but gets there early on Sunday mornings and gets dressed for school in his room k then. Also I knew a guy once that could bulge his stomach out the way Darren did this episode and I still have no idea how somebody can do that.
Look, the real star of Glee has returned.
Artie's storyline this episode was fun, and I'm glad it was kept mostly light-hearted and not too preachy.
My dad and I spent the entire time this girl was on wondering where we'd seen her before and then realizing she's a recurring character on another sitcom that we watch.
I liked Julie, and I don't know if she'll be back, but what we saw was good. Although I was under the impression that Kitty and Artie were still dating so what happened there?
The direct parody of the video was great.
As was the fact that all of the girls were the expressionless instrument-playing models.
I was...underwhelmed by the performance as a whole, though. The song itself is really, really good but the performance kind of came out of nowhere and there wasn't any real coherency to it.
Gun show indeed.
...Blaine how are you getting away with eating in that classroom anyway your'e getting crap everywhere.
See, while their storyline felt out of place last week, it really worked for me this week.
And Sam is an utter sweetheart I'm glad they've gone back to this Sam because he's such a gem.
Kurt why are you so surprised thy haven't had sex yet you and Blaine were dating for like eight months before you did.
Also I think the weirdest thing about this episode was Kurt's sudden health kick because up until now we've only really seen him eating junk food.
Okay, Artie's a smart dude, the fact that he's never used a condom is frightening. Didn't Brittany have a pregnancy scare back in season two when they were dating? Shouldn't that have clued him in a little?
Yes that's how people see you.
THEY'RE WATCHING GLEE.
This whole scene was hilarious but Sam's "SLUT-SHAMING! I'M SLUT-SHAMING YOU!" I can't
Kurt's on the same page as me about Artie not wearing a condom.
HE'S SO ANGRY I CAN'T.
And like, okay, it is Artie's responsibility, but it's also up to both partners to make sure both parties are being safe. Although I do understand the anger.
And this girl not caring at all hmm I wonder where Artie got it from
She's very sweet.
And now he's scared.
Okay, why is Sam acting like church is foreign to him he was part of the God Squad.
This reminds me of 'Grilled Cheesus' with all the women with crazy hats.
How has Mercedes already made friends with the preacher she just got to New York. Also this song was kind of bittersweet because it was one that Cory always wanted to sing on the show.
Background singers ahoy.
See one of those big hats in the background. Also the guy behind Sam looks really, really angry about something.
Random hugging.
Chris getting to use his sai skills again.
THE FACT THAT HE VOLUNTEERS TO GET SHIRTLESS I'M VERY PLEASED BY THIS DEVELOPMENT.
There is no reason for this besides the obvious.
So I've talked about the Klaine storyline and my thoughts on it on both tumblr and gleeforum but basically while I saw a lot of fandom raging, I didn't really feel either of them were totally right or totally wrong and I'm one of those people that isn't big into romance so I'd rather see them having conflict and actual conversations than being sickeningly sappy all the time. My full thoughts are
here, if anybody wants to read more :)
Blaine really does need to find some way to overcome his own insecurities, though. Like, it's well and good for Kurt to tell him over and over how much he loves him and how it doesn't matter what he looks like, but until he actually believes it, they're not going to move forward.
And yeah, I completely get why Kurt shuts down after seeing this. Considering what happened last year with Blaine, finding out that he's looking at porn but refusing to be intimate with Kurt is probably not sitting well with him.
Kurt's still so awkward about porn though and at least there's some continuity.
Okay, Rachel was lovely this episode. I rarely like Rachel but she was very supportive and, for once, didn't make it about her or try to influence Mercedes in any way.
Yes A+ Rachel
Yeah, Kurt was rude in this scene, but I don't think it was unwarranted.
His arms though good god.
THIS WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE LIKE VOCALLY THE SONG IS PERFECT BUT ADDED IN WITH THE CHOREOGRAPHY AND THE FIGHTING IT WAS SO GOOD. I've taken stage combat classes so I could relate to what was going on.
No more baby penguin.
Look at Blaine and his "I was in the Dalton Fight Club!" little high kick here.
Why are these people laughing there's literally nothing funny going on.
And this fight was...weird, because they made it seem like Blaine was the one attacking but I think Kurt went harder than he did. Unless we were supposed to take from it that Blaine was lashing out because of anger and Kurt's just better at defending himself. Also Blaine's hair looks good here.
So does Kurt's. Fencing, by the way, is really fun, and I was always really good at it. I have an especially sweet memory of completely owning this dude who was bragging about how wonderful he was and then had to deal with the fact that he was beaten 'by a girl.' It was great.
Oh Sam, asking if the diner has any fancy desserts.
I have no idea how they all got through this scene without laughing.
Especially Kurt's lines, I wouldn't have been able to do it.
I mean, it's not cool that Sam was doing this with the expectation that he could get into Mercedes' pants after, but he's still being very sweet.
I'm crying.
This poor girl has no idea what's going on. And Artie's whole, "can we wait 7-10 days?" and her being all, "it's just a first date I think I can wait a week." "...or ten days?"
This song was really. boring.
Like seriously it did nothing for the narrative.
And poor Julie's completely lost as to why they're wandering around singing or who these people even are.
I guess nobody else can see them.
Still confused.
This is really a gorgeous church. And I do like that while religion played a part in Mercedes' decision, she didn't do it just because of her faith, but because it was what she felt was best for her.
...what's up with the lamb?
Yes go Mercedes.
Although I do feel like Sam's reaction was genuine. I mean, even if you don't go into a relationship expecting sex, it's always kind of hovering there as something that's going to happen so to hear a firm 'no' isn't going to have a positive reaction.
But Sam being mature and taking the time to think about it is so lovely.
I want to hug you for sticking to your guns.
Darren's acting in this scene was so good but again, Blaine's got some serious issues and it's going to take more than Kurt constantly reassuring him to pull him out of this funk he seems to be in.
My dad: "Kurt should regret that sweater. What are those, red blood cells?"
And I don't...I don't understand people who say that Kurt isn't being 'supportive' enough or 'showing' enough. Kurt, for all he values romance and grand gestures, is not the type to make them himself, and I can understand why reading him can be hard sometimes but since I'm somebody that internalizes almost everything (my drama teacher once said to me, "I always watch you to see if you have a reaction because I can never tell what you're feeling") I can relate. And the fact that Kurt was tearing up in this scene told me everything I needed to know about how seeing Blaine like this affected him.
And yes, in a way we've been through this before, back in season three when Blaine thought pulling away was the best way to 'prepare' for losing Kurt, but that time it was external circumstances separating them and not his own (wrongly perceived) feelings of inadequacy.
Like, at this point there's nothing Kurt can do to prove how much he loves Blaine unless Blaine starts to believe it for himself.
I still feel so bad for him, though.
I'm not surprised we didn't get another kiss I'm pretty sure Glee's fast burning through their quota for the year.
Oh boys.
Artie that blazer and polo combination does not work.
Yeah, I still like her character.
His reaction to being called a creeper though.
The fact that Mercedes just assumes Blaine is doing something weird by leaving lit candles all over the place. Is this a common occurrence?
askfj;alskdfja;lksdjf SAM you are so sweet ;_______; Where can I find a Sam? I'm seriously asking this because I'm asexual and my biggest fear is never finding a guy that will accept the fact that I don't want to have sex. Ever.
:)
This scene was very lovely too look at what a good friend Rachel can be.
Her, "Sam and I had something for a moment but it passed" like I still have no idea if the writers were considering Sam/Rachel at one point but that seems to be over for now.
I like this Rachel. I'm sure she'll be gone by next week.
Yay girls being real friends and not turning it into a catfight and just being lovely and supportive of each other.
Poor Blaine and his cleanse.
They both look like they want some of that ice cream though. I don't blame them.
THEIR REACTION TO "SEX ISN'T EVERYTHING" HELP
Artie no longer cares about this conversation he just wants his dessert.
And their resounding "no" to the celibacy club idea oh boys.
So, yeah, after last week, this episode worked much better and while next week's seems Rachel-centric and I'm not too sure how that will pan out, New York is 2/3 so far so let's see if they can continue being good. Thoughts?
