This is something I started over a year ago, before my life went to shit and I stopped painting for a long time. I've decided to finish it. Mostly because I feel compelled to start painting again, because not painting makes me miserable. The octopus woman will have to wait til I get the proper supplies, but in the meanwhile I'm going to get going on this again. All I did today was the blueish areas of the kimono. The darker geometric patterns in these areas will be done in white, and I will be adding a lot more dimension to the pink areas of the kimono as well as the background. To tell you the truth, I've forgotten a lot of the nuances of the colors and am doubtful I will be able to pull this back together, but for now it's keeping me painting so it's all good. The character on the sleeve is "haru" which means spring, it's a Japanese spring fairy. The pink background is sakura - cherry blossoms - one of the most recognizable and stereotyped symbols of Japan. I took some liberties with the kitsuke so don't point them out - they're intentional!
