duel_pilot_yzak just made this fic for me (because she is a closet TaNakamaru fan) XD. And it was initially only Yuichi’s POV… And so I volunteered to do Koki’s POV and *poof* another collaboration fic yo~ lol… >_<

Yuichi POV
What is a typical love story? It is a kind of story wherein one of the lead characters will fall in love with the other lead. At first the story will start as a one-sided part. As the story goes on the bond between those two characters will become much closer than before. Half-way through the story the other party will slowly fall for the other. Realization, caused by something tragic or out of jealousy, that person is definitely in love. After over coming all of those obstacles that they have both gone through, they will confess how much they love each other and in the end of the story they will live happily ever after.
Nakamaru Yuichi, our main character in this story, believes that he is living in a typical love story. Or so he thought, because at the end of the story he will find out how his story ends up as an interesting one.
Just like any other story Yuichi was born from an average family, a father, mother and a younger brother. Ever since he was a kid he is as shy as he can be. He didn't have as many friends as his other classmates have. Because of his weakness some of the other kids bully him at school. Until one day he met this other kid who protected him. His name is Tanaka Koki and ever since that day they have become best friends.
Years passed and Yuichi began to feel emotions that he shouldn't be feeling towards his best friend. Like this one time, a new student named Kamenashi Kazuya transferred to their school with his oh-so-over-protective psychotic stepbrother Akanishi Jin. Koki being the loud mouth as he always was cannot stop talking about the new student and this made Yuichi more jealous to the other guy.
At that time he knew that he already has fallen hard for his best friend. Typical as he always say. Just like what he reads in his romance books. A week after the transfer the four of them, namely Koki, Yuichi, Kazuya and Jin became close friends and the jealousy Yuichi felt towards Kazuya was long gone when he found out the secret that the brothers shared.
It was in their high school years when Yuichi first lost his courage to confess to Koki. The Brothers talked him into doing it for they already know how much he truly loves the other. He was just being a coward for not confessing.
And just like any other love story, he was about to confess but ended up being rejected. Well not directly, but more like READ BETWEEN THE LINES, because at that same moment Koki told him in his excited tone that he and the girl from the school near them were already together. Yuichi couldn't cry after hearing the news from the other. No… not in front of him. Not when he is too happy to finally be together with the girl he had been chasing for months. And so in the end he gave Koki a forced smile, which was unnoticed by the other and wished them well.
Later that day he met up with Kazuya and there at that moment he poured out everything to the other. He cried his heart out. He told him how crushed his heart was when he heard those words escape from Koki's lips; how he wished that it was him that Koki was with now and not that girl for he knows that he could make the other happier than he already was. But since he was such a coward, his only chance to confess had slipped away. He wished he and Koki were the same as Kazuya and Jin who could show their affection to each other with out the thought of losing the bond that they already have. At that time all Kazuya could do was to listen to everything his friend had to offer.
Few years had passed and all the four of them were having Jobs of their own. Kazuya and Jin had their own wine shop. Koki was already working at one of the famous clothing line in the city while Yuichi works for a glass company.
The four friends agreed on meeting up with everyone, one night. They went to this simple restaurant and had their dinner. While eating, they talked about how their lives were in the past few months since they don't have the usual time to hang out together.
First was the brothers, they said that their relationship was much stronger and closer than they were before. They still fight like old times but they were more mature when it comes to decision making. They even told them that they were planning on getting married in Canada and both Koki and Yuichi were invited.
Yuichi was happy for the brothers because he knows how much they truly love each other. Later that night, Jin and Kazuya excused themselves because they need to wake up early the next day leaving Koki and Yuichi alone in the dinner.
That was the first time that Yuichi and Koki were left alone after a few months of separation. Deep inside Yuichi can't help but miss being that close to the other. It had been a long time.
The night came to an end much faster than they thought and soon Yuichi found himself sitting at one of the benches in the park with his best friend. They hadn't spoken that much yet to each other. As if waiting for one of them to break the silence. Yuichi was taken by surprise when he suddenly felt a pair of strong arms wrapped around him and pulled him closer to the other's warm body.
"How could I be so blind to not know that the happiness, I am looking for was already standing before me." It was Koki who first broke the silence between them. Yuichi had no idea what the other was talking about. Was the other confessing to him? Isn't this what he had always been wanted? But now why is the feeling not the same any more.
No, he knows that he still loves the other but since his heart was painfully crushed before he couldn't let his heart be crushed once more. Once was enough he said to himself like he always do. If the other had said those words years ago, he could have been the happiest man. But the other didn't and so he did the only thing he knows.
He slowly pushed the other away from him and told him the painful words he doesn't want to speak again. "I'm sorry" and with that he slowly left the other standing there watching Yuichi's back as he disappeared in the darkness of the night.
Who would have known that his love story would turn out that way? Maybe he wasn't really living in what they call a typical love story. Because in the end he didn't have the happy ending that those stories usually have. But the good thing is his story didn't end up as Loveless as the others had thought about it. Because the feelings he had for Koki were still there in his heart and no once can replace them. It is what keeps him going and moving forward.
What he learned from this is that, a love story doesn't always need to end in a lovey-dovey way. Sometimes sad endings were needed too, to make its main characters stronger than they were before.
Koki POV
Boy meets girl, they become closer until their feelings grow and they fall for one another. That’s what Koki thought of a perfect love story. He’ll find the girl of his dreams, make her fall for him, protect her with all that he has and make her the happiest woman that there can ever be.
As a child, Koki was born in a broken family. Koki, together with his 4 other siblings, were raised solely by their mother. As the eldest son, Koki was forced to be responsible for his siblings at a very young age. So he promised himself that when he grows up he’d be man enough to protect and take care of the people he holds dear in his heart. And on of those few people was Nakamaru Yuichi.
Yucchi, as Koki fondly called him, was a timid boy whom he rescued in school when they were in primary school. Koki, though not really a popular cool kid in school, was feared by others because of his rough attitude and temper. Even the known bullies dared not to touch him. And so since that day that he helped the shy boy, he had been Yucchi’s constant companion and soon they became the best of friends.
Years passed and their friendship grew even stronger. They even went to the same high school and even until the newcomers came into their lives, Kazuya and Jin, Koki still considered Yuichi his bestfriend. Koki has never been so fond of other people but something with Kazuya was different that made Koki comfortable with him. For the first time, Koki found someone whom he felt would not pick on Yuichi’s weakness and he knew that Kazuya would make a good friend. But having Jin always tagging along with him was inevitable. Just like the others, Jin seemed to have fun poking on Yuichi. At first it was awkward and Jin’s attitude pissed Koki off. But Kazuya was always there to control and pacify his brother and soon enough Koki got cool with it and they all became good friends.
At the same, just like a normal teenage boy, Koki found someone who caught his heart. Confident that Yuichi was now in good hands in the form of Kazuya and Jin, Koki gave more of his time to the girl whom he wanted to be his girlfriend. It was only a matter of months when Koki finally received the girl’s sweet ‘YES’ and with overwhelming happiness, the first person he told about it was his bestfriend. He told Yuichi the whole story even the tiniest details of how he and his now girlfriend finally got together. When Koki saw Yuichi’s approving smile, he couldn’t ask for anything more.
But just as quick as it came, it also quickly left. The happiness that Koki felt was replaced by hurt and sadness. Just a month after Koki found himself a girlfriend, he found out that he was just being used by the girl just to make some guy jealous. The relationship Koki thought they had was made up of lies, secrets and more lies. Koki never felt so stupid in his entire life. The girl just broke up with him and left him for another guy. And at the very moment that Koki felt do down and alone, Yuichi was there. Yuichi stayed and listened to all of Koki’s ramblings and took care of him when he got too drunk he couldn’t even stand. Yuichi picked him up and put him back on the right track. But by the time Koki got back to his old self, then it was Yuichi who started getting distant. And they remained that way until Graduation Day.
Years later, when the four of them decided to have a reunion, Koki got abnormally nervous. It had been a long time since they last saw each other and he missed Yuichi the most. Things have been awkward with them and he didn’t even have the courage to ask what happened. And now after so long, he would be able to see Yuichi again and maybe this time, settle things out.
It was only when Jin and Kazuya left that Koki had Yuichi all to himself. Then the feelings of how much he missed the taller man started gushing in. It filled him up so fast he felt his heart swelling.
As the night got deeper, they found themselves sitting side by side on a bench by the park. Koki took the opportunity to look at Yuichi but the latter didn’t seem to notice his gaze. And then flashes came flooding in Koki’s mind. In the long years that they had spent together, Yuichi was always taking care of him. When Koki gets all bruised from his stupid fights, Yuichi’s loving hands always cured him. Yuichi even went to his home and cooked for him when he got sick. And when his heart was broken, it was Yuichi who made him realize that he deserved someone better who could give him more love.
And then it hit him! How could he be looking in all the wrong places and wasted his love for people who don’t deserve it when all this time the love he was looking for was just right next to him? Then, without hesitation, Koki reached for Yuichi and wrapped him tightly in his arms. Yuichi was so thin and fragile that Koki thought he might crush him.
"How could I be so blind to not know that the happiness, I am looking for was already standing before me." Koki whispered still not letting go of the man in his arms. Deep inside, Koki was hoping that Yuichi could still give him a chance to reciprocate all the love and care that he had shown before, that Yuichi would give him the chance to make him happy.
But the other stiffened in his embrace and slowly pushed him away. “I’m sorry.” Yuichi answered sadly and turned his back so quickly that he missed to see the tear that rolled down Koki’s cheek.
“I guess I was a little too late.” Koki whispered mostly to himself. He watched as Yuichi walked away. He wanted to run, pull the other back in his arms and never let him go but his feet stayed glued on its spot all he could do was watch Yuichi’s retreating form, fearing that it would be the last time he’d see that very special person he held so close deep inside his foolish heart.
