I've been wondering if I should even post about this, because I'm not sure how to put it all into words.

I finished Sandworms of Dune this past weekend.

Almost everybody that knows me knows of my almost ludicrous fascination with the Dune universe.  Sandworms is the end of the canonical series; that is, it's the last part of the story that Frank Herbert was in the process of putting together at the time of his death.  His son and another science fiction writer decided to finish the story when several lockboxes containing notes and disks were found.  They decided that before they tackled that monster of a story, though, to write some of the backstory that is hinted at and partially explained through the course of the main series.  Most of it was good, but none of it was as sweeping and epic as the originals, and I guess that's probably not too surprising.  One or two of the books were absolutely awful, but I'm willing now, after finishing them all, to forgive those travesties, because of the end.

There are no words.
