Life Is an Open Road to Me

Aug 06, 2007 01:17

I am leaving Columbus, Indiana, on Thursday evening to begin my college career at the University of Georgia. I am so excited to embark on this new adventure. I plan to do a lot down there. I hope to see a lot of football. I hope to find a group of musicians with whom to jam and start a band. I hope to expand my vocal, guitar, drumming, and songwriting abilities. I want to meet as many new people as possible. I want to be an influential character in countless people's lives, just as so many of my heroes were. I feel that there's no better a place to achieve all these aspirations than at my future home, the University of Georgia.

I will miss all of my high school friends. I really hope that I was able to shape your lives as much as you shaped mine. I will always have fond memories of high school classes, marching contests, band events and trips, performing in theater, performing with Age Old Experience and many other musical groups, football and basketball games, Business Professionals of America, junior and senior Prom, and, of course, my beloved Colts winning Super Bowl XLI. They will continue to win more championships, and I will continue to be as big a Colts fan as ever. I will definitely keep in touch with all of you. Thanks for everything - the good and the bad - it was all worth it.

I always think of life as an adventure, and as Bryan Adams says, an open road. My mom always told me to be open to things that happen. I believe that two things coexist - God has a plan for each of us, and also that destiny is what we make of it. God knows what's going to happen to us, but our free will, a gift from Him, will determine many of our futures. I can't wait to see how everything will change, how many new people will come into my life, and how and where my college years culminate. I know that I am going to make the most of every opportunity. I know that you guys will do the same.

Some of you I may not see before my flight takes off at approximately 5:40 p.m. Thursday evening. For those of you that I won't see before then, and also for everybody else, thank you for being who you are, and for being great friends. Make the most of your opportunities, do everything you can, meet as many people as you can meet, and HAVE FUN! I'll miss you all greatly. Definitely keep in touch - Facebook is a big thing in college, haha. I will also pass on the advice my mom gave to me: be open to things that happen. Let your lives be adventures and open roads teeming with endless possibilities and destinations. Good luck to you all. God bless you.
