♛ in depth
Personality: Deidara is something of a vaguely sadistic arsonist turned artist with a strong liking for his personal freedom. If he isn't working on his art concurrently, he's quite easily bored; that boredom tends to lead to excessively large displays of art in the near future. He's not a particularly nice person - if he does something to help someone, he expects something of equal value or higher in return - but if it doesn't concern him directly, he doesn't particularly care about it.
Deidara does things on a whim. Never one for well-structured plans, he'd just as soon help someone as he would mock them. As a general rule, he's not too fond of anyone overly loud or cheerful. Most importantly, though, Deidara is very much proud of his art. His idea of art is something quick, something short-lived that (quite literally) goes out with a bang. He reacts with a varying degree of violence when he feels his art is being insulted.

AU Background:The son of a politician from Crescent and an artist from Esthar, Deidara spent most of his youth on Cross, primarily in the city of Crescent. It wasn't a particularly interesting period of his life, as he was very rarely allowed to leave the city, and at the time, it seemed as though he would become another of the many businessmen in the city, dabbling in politics in his spare time and - if his grandparents had their way - bringing more prestige to the 'shamed' family name*.
The minor complications in that plan arose when Deidara was bedridden with an illness shortly before his eighth birthday; to keep the irritable child entertained, his mother introduced him to art, something technically disallowed in the house. He took to it quickly, soon hiding tiny stashes of clay all over his room and hiding his amateur creations in the attic, where all of his mother's art was kept. It was around this time that his grades in school began to falter, garnering him increased scrutiny from his father and grandfather. Though it was limited at first, Deidara began to chafe under the strict regulations of his family and spent more and more time on his sculpting instead, opting to excuse himself from meals and parties early with the excuse of "extra-credit assignments in school."
This, then, was the volatile state of affairs when he turned 13. In the spring of that year, Deidara slipped and his father discovered clay sculptures scattered around his room; not even a week later, they came to blows when his father walked in on Deidara sculpting. After his father threatened to take away all of his freedom and send him off to a notoriously strict private boarding school if he didn't give up sculpting, the collection of clay birds the man was holding exploded; in the ensuing chaos, Deidara managed to steal away with a tidy sum of money and the rest of his clay sculptures. He abandoned his surname, instead choosing to run off to the city of Mirrodon with the intention of escaping the repercussions of the accidental murder of his father.
The absolute freedom Deidara experienced in Mirrodon grew on him quickly; he began to make a name for himself as an arsonist, carving his own tiny territory from the city in the process. He maintained a reputation as a free-lance agent, affiliated to no gang in particular, until a particularly violent inter-gang war broke out and he was given an offer under which he could still retain the majority of his freedom to do as he wished. As his skill in creating clay explosives grew, Deidara began to leave behind a personalized calling card each time he was particularly satisfied with his 'art' - a tiny red clay bird with this [青] carved into it. He made Mirrodon his base for almost a decade; sometime after his 21st birthday, however, Deidara decided that the constant violence of the city was no longer as appealing as it once was. He handed in his resignation to the gang in a particularly violent manner, blowing up several buildings in the process and leaving behind scattered sculptures that erupted until he was past the limits of the city center.
Deidara stayed fairly low-key for a year before reappearing in Armlock, establishing himself as an eccentric but skilled sculptor. He lives there now, though he occasionally visits Mirrodon both to ensure that his ability hasn't faded and to test out new creations. His current project - the creation of clay sculptures with some rudimentary artificial intelligence - has led to his spending extended periods of time in Mirrodon, as he uses the city as a testing grounds.
* [His father was a politician hailing from a family with vague ties to nobility; his mother was a common-born artist. As such, Deidara's grandparents held that the marriage was a poor match that brought shame to the family name, as they had been in the midst of planning an arranged marriage when the news reached them. Luckily, Deidara's father was not the eldest son; unfortunately, Deidara was the eldest of the male children and was given the burden of proving that his father's marriage was not a shameful one.]
Appearance: Deidara has long blond hair, usually pulled up into a high ponytail with some falling to cover his left eye [e.g.
this], and if he is working on his art from a distance he will usually be wearing a custom-made scope over his left eyes [e.g.
this little thing]. What he wears varies; he almost always will have a black mesh shirt on under whatever shirt he is wearing for the day, though, and he keeps two pouches full of clay with him at all times.
He's approximately 166 cm tall and weighs 50.8 kg.

Injuring/Maiming:as long as it's not something life-altering and Very Permanent (e.g. the loss of a limb, finger, toe, etc.) it's fine with me~ I'd appreciate if you let me know if it'll happen, though. If it is something life-altering, then please ask me first~
Killing: erm. I'd prefer if you asked me first. :)
Hugging, Kissing, etc.: perfectly fine! [if you want full-out NC-17 sex, please ask though!]
Deaging, Genderswapping, etc.: absolutely fine~ just let me know when it happens and I'll be more than happy to go along with it.
Mindreading: if you want :) Deidara's thought usually revolve around his art - his projects, their status, any improvements he wants to make, etc. - and anything related to it (e.g. a building he blew up in Mirrodon, a sculpture he saw in Armlock that he wants to improve on, the tragic gruesome death of someone who disliked his art etc.)
