So another trip came and went, and I am back at my desk wondering where that blissed out "I'm on vacation" feeling disappeared to. Maybe it's the rain, or maybe it really is that I am once again, as mentioned above, sitting at my desk...
and yes, I am also wondering where that "I am going to get so much stuff done when I get back!" feeling went, but maybe I will worry about that tomorrow, for now I am going to focus on trying to recapture, or at least recap, the glories of the last couple of weeks-
trip part 1- Schio
This was perhap the saddest part of the trip, b/c I was in Schio and my grandma wasn't anymore, and we had to go thru her things and decide who got what and how to get it from point A to point B. Fortunately, we grandkids were not so involved in this process... my dad and his siblings sat around for a couple of days in what Nicola (my grandmother's first great-grandchild) liked to call the "G-4 summit", and got almost everything sorted out, to almost everyone's dissatisfaction, but I suppose that is inevitable in these situations...
I got to spend a lot of my time drooling at my aunts house and yard and garden, and playing with my cousin's incredibly cute and friendly cat...
and of course writing the paper for the conference that made up part 2 of the trip. No, of course I didn't get it done before leaving, why would I do a silly thing like that? and the sad truth is that I didn't get it done while I was at my aunts house either, but more about that later, now I want to talk about real estate.
My aunt and uncle and my cousin and her husband bought an old villa in Schio a couple of years ago, which they completely renovated. It took almost two years, but now its absolutely gorgeous, but it's not the villa- my favorite part is the garden. There's a pear tree, and an apple tree, and a peach tree, and grapes, and a garden and little house for visitors...anyway, it's beautiful.
and the other really nice thing that happened was that my friend M also came early for the conference, so she spent a couple of days hanging out with me, one of which we spent in Venice, ostensibly to see the biennale, but really we spent most of the time wandering and shopping... and drinking cappuccinos in St. Mark's square.
