Summer 2005

These garbage bins amused me greatly; they were scattered in the Torre Contrada neighbourhood after they won the Palio, along the route I had to take every morning to get to class. After they won they had nightly street parties & thus required the use of the garbage bins. However, they had to stick it to their enemy contrada (the Oca), as Italians are relentless to rub it in the face of their adversaries whenever they win anything (although I'm sure that's a trait that is shared not only by the Italians.)

Basically the message on the garbage bin can be translated thusly:

----------
GARBAGE
Members of the Oca Contrada
Paper Plastic
All of Fontebranda
-----------
(Fontebranda is a major area within the Oca Contrada neighbourhood)

Hee hee. Povera Oca.

P.S. If you're reading this and you're like "wtf is she talking about", follow this link which somewhat explains what the Palio di Siena is all about. :)
