This is a farewell, in a way. LiveJournal's recent DDOS problems have made me realise that I need to back up my writing more than I have been (in that I haven't been doing it at all). I'm keeping this account open, but much of my writing is now likely to appear at http://hughgrimwade.wordpress.com. It's slightly more professional-looking than LiveJournal, and while a little finicky at times it does give me a few more options in terms of playing around with neat little widgets. Chances are I'll mirror most posts between the two - I've already transferred 2/3 of the past five years of LJ posts across there - but I must admit I've thrown a 'wordpress-exclusive' post up there already. If I like Wordpress it's likely that that'll become my primary blogging mechanism, and LJ will be just for commenting on other blogs. If I get sick of it, expect to see me here again soon enough.
Curiously enough, Wordpress is probably the first site I haven't attached the 'anzal' name to. I've been using that as a default username for almost a decade now, and LiveJournal kicked it all off. I am a perennial late adopter to all things bloggy and found that my first choices for user names were already well and truly taken, as were indeed my 2nd through to 222nd choices! It took me a few hours to find something that wasn't already in use, and so I've stuck to it like glue ever since. (Damn MySpace, where I had to add an underscore - _anzal - after one other bugger decided to use the name first). But, times change, and time for me to move on. Remember, you never win a game by staying in the same place for too long.
