Reviews on the following Aftershock comics in the order I read them:
- Artemis & the Assassin (5)
- Disaster Inc (4-5)
Individual series information can be found
here Series: Artemis & the Assassin
Issue: 5
Rating: 4/5 stars
I am quite embarrassed to admit that I didn’t realize that Virginia/Artemis was an actual spy during WWII. Her information is pretty darn awesome.
Maya is legitimately tired of being led around by Isak and learns more about herself, and her powers. I really like her character growth to independence.
I think that Virginia has a crush on Maya.
The Nazis don’t invade NYC, so history is as we know it, thanks to Maya.
The end is pretty good.
Series: Disaster Inc.
Issues: 4-5
Rating: 3/5 stars
The beginning of issue 4 really confused me. I thought this was Abby having a radiation dream about taking people through the contaminated rivers of Fukushima, but it was a flashback as to why she has stuck with Paolo despite his abandoning her to the authorities on a previous tour. Her trial yields no convictions, but it’s the only one or three arrests in another country where Abby didn’t do any prison time.
But some creepy things happen that make me think she’s remembering the past through a dream before Paolo’s brother, Lucas, finds her. Lucas tells Abby the truth about Paolo, and what he’s been looking for.
Lucas also points out that Paolo is a selfish jerk who Abby continuously makes excuses for.
Then it is confirmed: The Samurai have returned to Fukushima.
Despite the beautiful spread of the Samurai in issue 5, I felt confused by the ending of this series.
