Reviews on the following Aftershock comics in the order I read them:
- Animosity (25)
-Dark Ark: After the Flood (2)
-Dark Red (8-9)
- Stronghold (5)
- You Are Obsolete (4-5)*
- Midnight Vista (4-5)*

Individual series information can be found here

Series: Animosity
Issue: 25
Rating: 4/5 stars

I think this is my lowest Animosity rating, and it’s because there is too much back and forth, not only between points of view but also past and present.

Lola scares me, especially since she is carrying some very dangerous items. I understand her brokenness but I still am not a huge fan.

I have to laugh at the “Holy Texan Empire.”
The paneling when Jesse and Lola arrive is super neat.

Series: Dark Ark: After the Flood
Issue: 2
Rating: 3.5/5 stars

Then: Shrae lies about the child (Khalee) he found, claiming he is meant to keep her as his own. Others feel he has doomed them, and Aris’ scene with the dark masters is eerie.

Now: Khalee mourns her actions, but she learns that Shrae’s soul is bound to the island, preventing him from eternal damnation. I actually like that.

Series: Dark Red
Issues: 8-9
Rating: 4/5 stars

This would have been higher if it WASN’T FOR THE STUPID END TO 9.
Stupid for me.

Stu is adorable, though I am totally “what the hell is he wearing?” in issue 9.

Evie (and us) learn about the vampire community through Centress, who is running the city’s vampire mafia scene. I like that there is definitely importance in community for them.

The weres realize they were wrong in attacking Chip, and that he didn’t kill their Beta. So they all set out to find out who did. Dagmara is hilariously entertaining and even though I still don’t like McCobb, I DO like how he is begrudgingly okay with Chip and crew overall.
They both provide interesting insight on vampires misting.

Gatito reaching for Chip is adorable.

“Oh Evie” is right. I don’t think she fully understood what--and who--she got herself into until the end of 8.

Erm. Well. There goes McCobb. And...and...and crap I hate Centress.

Series: Stronghold
Issue: 5
Rating: 3.5/5 stars

There is a lot going on, a lot I forgot...and a lot I missed because I didn’t realize until after that I was missing issue 4.

Michael is told some of his past by the Hold Mother. I’m glad that he is not an actual deity.
There is some interesting information, but there is also a lot at once here.

Series: You Are Obsolete
Issues: 4-5
Rating: 3/5 stars

I’m missing issue 3, but that had no bearing on my rating. It got boring and confusing by the end. So people are controlled by an app that is run by the children because they’ve found a way into the souls (?) of people or something.

Apparently, it WAS because of all the info in issue 3 that my rating was originally 2/5 stars. Still not a fan of how all over the place it became, and how absolutely drugged up Lyla (and Kad, tho to a lesser extent) is for most of it

We get a lot more of Lyla’s past, but quite a bit of it is confusing and wrapped up in others’ lives at the end. Martina can force obsolescence (death) in adults because she wants to for some unknown reason. THAT is still something I don't understand.

I DO like how Lyla realizes that people who don’t stand up to blind obedience makes them complacent in certain acts.

Series: Midnight Vista
Issues: 4-5
Rating: 4/5 → 2/5 stars

Missing issue 3, but I was able to catch up without a problem. I now have issue 3 and yes, I was indeed able to catch up with no problem, which is great. It just fills in some gaps. The rating stays the same though because of issue 5.
Issue 4 is great: Oliver’s mom calls the aliens “human-shaped foreskins” which is the best. And ‘detective’ Martinez is bloody awesome.

The aliens tell Oliver that he can never understand why they took him, which I think is a cop-out for even the author. But then he seeks out a new-age spiritualist named Raj who helps him realize that the more important question is “Why did he get sent back?”
I like that Raj says that the Holy Spirit is in ALL beings, human and alien alike, but then he becomes super fanatic; instead of Kool-Aid, he takes out guns.

But the end of issue 5 says “End.” END?! There could be 2-3 more issues here! I have no clue what happened nor what will happen and it just...stops. Hence the 2-star rating.

midnight vista, dark ark, stronghold, aftershock comics, you are obsolete, comics review, animosity, dark red
