Reviews on the following Aftershock comics in the order I read them:
- Dead Kings (5)
- Descendent (2-4)
- The Last Space Race (4-5)
- Oberon (4-5)
- Volition (6)
- A Walk Through Hell (10-12)

Individual series information can be found here

Dead Kings
Issue: 5
Rating: 4/5 stars

Gena teaches Maria that we are often called to do things we never thought we were meant to do--such as liberate others.

This included a very good end for both Gena and Maria. I feel like the character arcs were done very well.

Descendent
Issues: 2-4
Rating: 4.5/5 stars

OK so I had actually read 1 and 3 before, but not 2, so things make more sense now.

The graveyard spread in issue 2 is actually kind of soothing. I’d have liked it even more if people (Michael, Jo, and David) weren’t in it.
David is a YouTuber who is sought by the Mother, the head of the cult-like church that originated in the 1600s, for getting too close to the truth.

David grows on me.

The events and people’s hands in them (CoughMichaelCough) become more and more evident to the reader as these three issues continue...and to the characters.

I’m not surprised at some of the events because of the earlier reveals, but the story is quite interesting and issue 4 provides a great addition to the plot and overall story.

The Last Space Race
Issues: 4-5
Rating: 3.6/5 stars

WAIT. IT’S DONE!? Nnoooooooo.
I get it--it ended. It wrapped up.
Granted, I don’t think it wrapped up well. Everything leading up to the last few pages of issue 5 was a 3.9-4 stars but the end fell flat for me and made me drop to 3.4 stars. The end itself is 3 stars.

The information on space dust on Earth is INTERESTING. And true hahaha.

The flipping between Sasha’s childhood, immediate past, and present blur. The latter two were such that I couldn’t remember which was the ‘present.’

I do like that Sasha changed designs, so that if computers fail, people CAN manually override the system. It’s dumb to do anything otherwise, and something that I’m positive NASA ensures for the safety of the astronauts.
Though I was confused with some of that at the end of 5. I apparently need to reread the series.

Though who knows when that will be--I say that about a lot of the series, heh.

Issue 5 has an absolutely beautiful first page, and later on asks deep questions. The first ¾ of the 5th issue was among the best in the series. What does it take to be remembered? Forgotten? What defines “true” death?

Oberon
Issues: 4-5
Rating: 4/5 stars

Oh my. Giotenouseaus is frightening yet awesomely drawn.

Oberon has quite a few secrets of his own.

I feel so bad for Queen Titania. Oberon’s behavior makes me dislike him even more.

Oh look, Bottom and Robin Goodfellow.

We learn who exactly Bonnie is, though I suspected it

And what the heck at that end?! I hate Oberon!

Volition
Issues: 6
Rating: 3.75/5 stars

Hale learns of the “death” of his friends.

Amber learns who created Rust. Traymore was disappointed that AIs were selfish and temperamental--like humans.

I DO like that she made sure the decline was gradual.
But still…

A Walk Through Hell
Issues: 10-12
Rating: 2/5 stars

10: We learn a lot of McGregor’s past, but it’s unnerving. It’s even more so--and bloody eerie--at the end.
11. I’m confused a bit, but I’m really starting to see that the entire series is about being forced to face past (and present) demons as others witness your downfall.
12. Or not? I’m highly confused. So Carnahan is...the Devil? And what is up with the different timeframes? Timelines? I am so confused by it all, that the 3 stars drops to a 2 stars because what the heck?
