People Magazine: Miley & Liam officially end their engagement
"It's officially over: Reps for both Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth confirm to PEOPLE exclusively that the engagement is off between the two stars.
The news marks the end of a tumultuous year in which Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, have experienced more break-ups than bonding moments.
The couple - who first met on the movie set of 2010's The Last Song - got engaged in May 2012. At the time, the singer told PEOPLE, "I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
But earlier this year, the pair decided to postpone their wedding.
Cyrus was subsequently seen out without her 3.5-carat Neil Lane engagement ring but soon it was back on her hand and the couple were reunited in July in Canada, where Hemsworth was shooting his new movie Cut Bank, and on the red carpet for his movie Paranoia in August.
Since then the couple seem to have been living separate lives as the "Wrecking Ball" singer continues to plug her album Bangerz and Hemsworth prepares to promote Catching Fire.

E! News can confirm that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have ended their almost four-year relationship.
Sources say that the split was "Miley's decision, after coming to grips with Liam what she believed was less than faithful to her."
The two were last spotted together on Aug. 8 at the red carpet premiere of Hemsworth's film, Paranoia, in Los Angeles.
He was notably absent during her controversial MTV VMA performance later that month.
And just over the weekend, things seemed to foreshadow today's news when the "Wrecking Ball" singer unfollowed her former fiancé on Twitter.
The couple has put even more distance between them lately with Cyrus promoting her upcoming album Bangerz in Europe while Liam was in Las Vegas for the Floyd Mayweather fight.
The breakup also comes on the heels of the "We Can't Stop" singer opening up about wedding plans in the most recent issue of Harper's Bazaar.
I definitely don't have time to deal with a wedding right now," she told the fashion mag. "But I will at some point."
Just last week, rumors swirled that Hemsworth had been going behind Cyrus' back and sexting Mad Men star January Jones.
His rep vehemently denied the reports calling them, "tabloid fiction."
The two announced their engagement in 2012, when the former Disney darling was 19-years-old.
At the time, the teen bride-to-be told People, ""I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam."
The Hunger Games hottie proposed with a stunning 3.5-carat diamond ring from jeweler Neil Lane.
The former duo, who denied rumors of an engagement months before the Aussie actually popped the question, met back in 2009, when they costarred in The Last Song.
