I finally got around to watching The Help last night. I purchased it on iTunes when it first came out, but things kept coming up and I just never watched it. When the boys left to visit my in-laws last night, I decided it would be the perfect time. The SAG awards put it back on my radar screen and I wanted a good laugh. What I got was a good cry. Such a wonderful movie. Normally, I'd say that it really made me "think", but in this case, I'd have to say it really made me "feel". I hate feeling, but I loved this movie anyway. And, I really want a copy of the book...not the book that the movie was adapted from, the book FROM the movie. I wonder if there is a non-fiction work of similar ilk. (Note to self: do some research)
I did find this link after a quick search for what's out there.
Her family hired me as a maid for 12 years but then she stole my life and made it a Disney movie. She makes a good case here. Another
article I read said the lawsuit was dismissed because she didn't file it within one year, a time period I happen to think is a bit absurd.
Whatever anyone else gets from the book/movie, what I have to say is thank goodness for those women who took such good care of the children who would have otherwise been ignored while their parents were too busy being socialites.
