the saga, in brief
we have a floor!!
for the last ~7.5 weeks we have been sleeping in the living room on our bed that was shoved between the couch and the dining room table. most of the furniture that belonged in the bedroom was piled about us in the living room.
our condo sucks.
the people who built it suck that much more.
our windows in the bedroom had been leaking. we were aware of this fact but it kept getting worse and despite harassing the condo association about it, they were slow to do anything. we also knew that they were leaking not due to any issue with the windows themselves, or the roof, but that the water was leaking down from inside the walls. turns out they basically put stucco over windowsills that were about 1.5' deep and stucco doesn't hold up so well to winters. when it rained we'd just get out the rags and make due but we weren't smart enough to recognize immediately that if it was leaking down the inside of the walls, it was also leaking into the carpet. by the time we finally did, the carpet was wet and moldy and the walls were too.
we bleached the shit out of everything. we ripped the fucking carpet out. but it turns out that mold isn't so good for you health-wise. i couldn't breathe in the house and the husband developed an earache that was nigh on impossible to shake.
luckily we were house-sitting when this fun struck so we camped out there for a few nights while we were killing mold and ripping the house apart. my laptop was travelling with us to keep us entertained and unfortunately it got friendly with some Thai leftovers (don't ask.). it of course did not fare so well. in fact, we took it in to get cleaned up and were reassured that the hard drive still worked but that we would be lucky if we could get the computer to stay on long enough to transfer everything over to a new one. and that's only with it plugged in.
i did not want to buy a new computer. i needed to buy a new computer. supposedly. i bought a new laptop. now i have a working laptop and a zombie laptop. turns out my old computer works just fucking fine. it's run for at least 20hrs and now even charges just fine. there is nothing wrong with it as far as i can tell. it may die any day now or it may hold out another 2yrs just to fucking annoy me.
the flooring people we contracted with to install our floors (bamboo!) we picked b/c the promised to get it done swiftly. somehow that didn't work out either. apparently bamboo is in high demand and therefore damned difficult to get. there was patient waiting, there was panic, there was more waiting, and finally today it was installed. in less than half a day. we've already gotten everything moved back in (mostly).
and now, now we go to yoga. and breathe mold free, stress lessened, and hopefully seriously bad fucking luck over.
