so my mom stole my identity. not really but she put me on some of her credit card ages ago, pre-high school, in order to help build credit... anyway, i had since forgotten about that & didn't assume that those would actually show up on my credit report. anyway. whew. no need for dancing corpses thence.
things are grand. being grown up blows but i'm managing. other than that life is rosy. (that's right, you heard me, sara, just say that life is "rosy." let's not discuss the implications of what that term implies coming off my fingers...) i'm hoping i've taken care of most of the "grown up" details for awhile & will therefore be able to reclaim some time. i miss people. mostly i've been hiding in my house accomplishing things when not in chicago dancing (last weekend) or in columbus visiting max. more people soon, i demand it!
so i finished two books that people suggested & i feel like i should now re-cap what i thought:
walton's tooth and claw:
truly a victorian novel despite the fact that all of the characters are dragons. complete with character confusion due to the number thrown at you at one time, as well as similarities in titles & names, & little character development. complete with the formalities of society inherent in a system where women can't hold their own property & everyone is expected to go to church & to kowtow to the upper echelons.
it was quite the fun read! like any victorian novel it passed quickly. the wholly predictable romantic "turns" make you just want to keep reading in order to confirm your suspicions. the fact that there were dragons involved... that truly piqued my interest being that the entirety of the time i was trying to understand the author's conception of dragon anatomy & how she structured their society in order to accommodate. naturally everyone ends up happily married & wealthy (don't cry i ruined the ending, as if you didn't know it was coming!), which really just made me want to hunt down another victorian novel to continue the cheesy-romance happy high.
as some would say, "a feel good fest," but hell, who doesn't need one of those on occasion?!
points i especially enjoyed: when the author inserts herself into the story to make apologizes for glossing over certain details in order to improve the flow of the novel. the discovery of the treasure (who doesn't love hidden treasure?) & the final revelation of the history of a shadowy character.
alright, so that's bk 2. bk 1 you're just going to have to wait on due to the length of this post already & sara having other things to do.
