i'm exhausted.
friday saw me out at lisa's house to take care of her huge puppies w/ laura. miss lisa's father just died last weekend & laura is currently house/dog sitting for her. most of the evening was preoccupied by attending to the dogs. those damn creatures are spoiled something awful. they also don't respond to 'come' which i personally think is a mighty useful command, in retrospect.
we facilitated a successful child-large dog interaction on our evening walk. we fed the creatures. we fed ourselves. we wiped doggy drool up off the floor. we drank some pineapple juice & malibu. & we watched the 2nd 1/2 of the flying daggers (a movie w/ the hot girl from crouching tiger, hidden dragon in it). then laura fell asleep on the couch, i let the dogs out & i did dishes at 1:30am so the dogs wouldn't break the dishes trying to lick all the food off. trying to get the dogs back in the house... quite the feat. i bribed w/ food twice (once w/ a treat & once w/ spaghetti noodles) & no such luck. eventually i had to chase miss priss, keiala (sp?) back into the house to get the damn creature inside. i collapsed into bed & no more that 5min later the damn dogs were scratching at the door. i ignored them. btwn laura & i we let those stupid creatures out at least 3 times during the period in which we were sleeping because they'd start pawing at the door or barking. the morning walk when laura & i dragged our tired asses out of the bed also included a fun 5min interval where keiala layed down & refused to go any further. of course on the way back home. finally after some pushing & pulling we finally got her up & moving again.
large dogs for sara? no. especially when they weigh more than she does.
lucky me, i also get to experience plenty more trials & tribulations in regards to the dogs because next week laura needs a substitute dog sitter. oye.
saturday afternoon i rounded up michael & laura & we drove off to pittsburghish for a dance. i can't even begin to describe what a fantastically great place we ended up at. there was a pool; a huge, cleaned out barn where the dance was being held which was decked out in christmas lights; an outhouse; a fire; projected movies; ddr; and lots of land to explore. we didn't get to do any swimming & we passed on the ddr. michael & i got to give a mini-lindy lesson, which was weird for me since i haven't even been dancing for a year yet. we watched a movie called the fastest indian which despite it's name was quite good (well done anthony hopkins). & of course much dancing was had though most of it was between the hours of midnight & 4am (we got there at 5pm. we left at noon this morning.). the night wrapped up w/ michael & i "singing" ourselves/each other off to "sleep" to cake's mexico ("singing" being whispering & giggling since almost everyone else was asleep & "sleep" being snatches between periods of listening to the rain on the tin roof). the leads all loved laura. she enjoyed dancing w/ everyone & learning & that really came across. i didn't do quite as much dancing as i perhaps would have liked but early on in the evening i strained the muscle in front of my shin doing a dip & it hurt every time i did so afterward. all in all, a grand time & lots of nifty new people were met.
i'm sure there were many other fun & exciting mini-stories (like the near drive-thru liquor store experience which i chickened out of) to tell about the weekend but my brain just went to sleep.
also, if i could manage not to have such an allergy-filled weekend ever again, i certainly would not be saddened.
