grumble. humanity.

last night was an interesting one. laura came out from oberlin to hang out w/ michael & i so we decided to get some dessert & go bar-hopping in this great city of lakewood.

we picked up frozen custard from Rosati's around the corner. it was the first time i've ever had frozen custard & all i have to say is, damn i wish that place wasn't quite so close to the house b/c now i'm going to have to start exercising! yum.

next we were off to make a decision about bars. that wasn't done until we were a mile from home. let me tell you, there are a lot of bars prior to that mile mark & not a one of them did we set foot in (i guess that's the problem w/ keeping indecisive company).

so we stop at the last bar before 150th/warren called Crazy 'Ritas. the place was huge, especially if you're used to dealing w/ the Feve. anyway, we walked in, got drinks (laura & i of course got margaritas since that's obviously supposed to be their specialty). with our margarita boats in hand (those things were huge) we found a back corner booth. the booths really were spectacular! they were upholstered in old strips of jeans, pockets included! if i had anything cool on me, i would have left something in the pockets but no such luck. the shouting across the table then commenced since the joint was being entertained by a live cover band.

now, if you've ever been around me when i'm drinking, you'd know i have a tendency to get a bit cuddly... so michael gets up to get another drink leaving laura & i in the semi-circular booth & of course laura & i just sort of lean our heads up against one another. now, that really was the extent of the affection being shown but the nearby humans decided they needed to show their true-colors (oh how i love humanity). so we were subject to much yelling & whistling by the 2 men at the nearby table & glaring from the 2 women. laura & i conveniently ignored them especially since it wasn't the, "wow, check out the hot lesbians" kind of response & more the "we're stupid bigots & we don't like 'your' kind" of response. we finished our drinks & promptly decided to leave. luckily, the table ignored us when we left b/c i only realized after i had passed by that if they had made any move towards us that i probably would have done them bodily injury before even i had realized what happened. being aware of your willingness to do violence at a conscious level is one thing but wholly subconscious is another feeling entirely.

after the escape we then needed to decide btwn a trip to the lake & a new bar. since humanity was running high on the list of likes at the moment, the lake was naturally chosen. we ended up at lakewood park where we sat on a swing staring at the line created by the slight difference in colors of the lake & sky. eventually we decided to make our way back towards humanity but only after stopping to play on the playground. round 2 on bars was skipped. we dragged our asses home. damn, that was one long walk. now-sober & tried is a bad time to start the next mile in your 'bar-hopping' phase.

helpful lessons of the night:
yes, i do hate humans.
the lake will always win out over humans (see the above).
when bar-hopping don't start out at the bar that's a mile away unless you are then making your way back w/ frequent stops for re-lubricating.
Crazy 'Ritas has tasty, huge drinks & a cute bar-tender.
slides are not meant for hips (formerly known & simply reminded)
swings, of the 'porch-swing' variety, are fantastic (as always)

now, i'm going to stop thinking about humanity b/c it makes me sad.
