Army uniform photos

Jun 03, 2008 12:02

I don't have any of an officer's uniform, but I have these photos of an ordinary redcoat's uniform. I have also included some photos illustrating arms drill.

Showing shirt and trousers.

From the back. Yes, I know the braces are really high up - because the trousers' waistband is so high.

Detail of the previous photo, showing the waistband adjustment at the back.

Trying to show the sleeves a bit more. You wouldn't believe how much fabric there is in a Napoleonic shirt...

A close-up of the jacket front and cross-belt plate. You can also see the wings a bit better here...

A side view...

From the back. The two buttons are there for you to button the bayonet and cartridge-box to, to help stop them getting in the way. Using the buttons also keeps them in the same place, so that you can put your hand directly on your bayonet or cartridges...

Arms Drill Photos:

I seem to remember that I promised someone - I think it was tootsiemuppet some photos showing the arms drill, or something.

Present Arms!

The first position (God, that sounds like ballet lessons!) Order arms, standing to attention

At ease

Shoulder arms. The most common way of carrying a musket when on the march

Advance arms, another way of carrying a musket while on the march

Trail arms. This is usually used by Light Infantry regiments and Riflemen, as a much more comfortable way of carrying a gun.

Support arms. When on the march, the arms would be as shown here. While on parade, the right arm would be down by the side, and the musket would be held by the lock in the crook of the elbow.

Walking out dress. The only weapon carried would be the soldier's bayonet, slung from the single crossbelt with crossbelt plate.

ETA I think this is the first post wherein I have included piccies of my NEW BROWN BESS! *is bad*
