A sackful of nautical dictionaries and a few other goodies

Oct 12, 2010 23:23

I'd like to announce the day of goodness for sailors, sea dogs and all possibly-interested-mates in general. A handful of links behind the cut.

First off, I've just loaded a crate of nautical dictionaries into my other journal. Modern and historical, English, bi- and multilingual, not-English, online, printed-but-now-online... Have I forgotten something? If yes, I'll supplement it willingly.

Second, there are two additions to the historical map collection: James Cook's First Pacific Voyage (quite nice, interactive) and Antique Maps of Pacific Ocean. I update The Hold more often, but would you mind if I'd announce here all updates of generally historical nature (that is, not strictly PotC)?

And yet a few sweets, by the way.

Is the U.S. NotRoyal! Navy allowed here? If you're just not manning the cannons yet, then maybe Naval History and Heritage can interest you. They have a few preciousness there, for example the list of officers 1775-1990, or full texts of uniform regulations from 1797 to 1943.

And to top it off, a report on HMS Victory. No, not this Victory, the previous one, sunk in 1744. Preliminary Survey & Identification on the bottom of the English Channel.

So... well, is it of use for you? (And as for The Hold, any remarks and even commissions are welcome.) (And I've probably broken the record of tags amount...)
