Over a month ago, it was announced that one of the appointment schedulers was being promoted to administrative assistant. The AA was being promoted to Business Office manager, a position that has been vacant for most of the 2 years I've worked at the clinic. I quickly shot the Head Honcho an e-mail asking if they were accepting internal applications for the appointment scheduler position. Within a week, they'd offered it and I accepted. It's a nice raise from my current pay, the work is less physically demanding, and not quite as high-pressure, in my estimation. Best of all, I'm already trained in a lot of the tasks required and I feel like I'll be good at it.
The problem is replacing me. Because I'm taking some of my duties with me (releasing of medical records, mainly) they're looking for someone part time. Until they hire someone and get him/her at least partially trained, they need me to stay in medical records. They finally got someone. Her first day was Tuesday. Wednesday, she called in sick. Today she didn't call at all. I was so close to FINALLY getting my promotion, and now I'm waiting again. I knew, all ego aside, they'd have a hard time replacing me. It's the job. It requires a sort of mental organization that, frankly, can be exhausting. You have to have that anal-retentive, obsessive-compulsive streak to enjoy it. And though I do enjoy it, see above re: exhausting. Also: nice raise. I want my new job dammit!
