It started with an iron.

He'd filched it during his first month of work in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office. One of his superiors, Oliver Barnaby, had discovered it in a raid. The iron had been enchanted by a disgruntled witch neighbor of a pompous businessman, and she'd set it to behave as a teapot. It dampened clothes, instead of flattening them out, and whistled obnoxiously every half hour. The iron, after being rehabilitated by Barnaby, was plopped onto Arthur's desk with the command to "File this away, Weasley."

"But what does it do, Oliver? I mean- I mean what is it?" Arthur had asked, understandably confused: it had some sort of flashing light, and a long pronged snake hung off one end of it. "What is it for?"

Barnaby had just laughed and swept away to his desk, but Arthur was undeterred. Later that evening, he snuck the iron to the back shed and set it on a shelf behind a self-seeding flowerpot.

In a few short years, the shed became Arthur's "Muggle Museum," and the flowerpot was nothing but a distant memory.

(gah, I hope you like this. This pairing is one that interests me but I don't really write it SO we'll see.)

Oliver is an only child, and that's one of the many things about him that intrigues Percy. He's always felt that he should have been an only child; his demeanor is not made for socializing, for sharing, for undeserved patience ( ... )

Scorpius is bent over a table, slamming a stack of books with his fist. He can't stop laughing for the life of him; his sides hurt, his throat hurts, his stomach is tight with the constant release of air. Despite the pain, he can't help but feel elated, like the world couldn't be a better place ( ... )
