It might have only been one man saying something patently stupid, but unfortunately too many will follow his words as if they were gospel from on high.
Hilali has been using the excuse "I'm misunderstood" too often. There was no ambiguity in his statements about women, equating them with 'uncovered meat'. It was not taken out of context. It was not mistranslated.
And why shouldn't people be enraged at what he said? Pope just quoted what an emperor said centuries ago, and the Islamic communities everywhere wanted him to at the very least, apologise, or hung, drawn and quartered! He received death threats for it! But its ok for this guy to say if a woman gets raped because she isn't covered from head to toe it her fault because the man suddenly turns into an unthinking animal? (Or that the Jews are responsible for all modern wars, or that the Holocaust didn't really happen or wasn't all that bad)Oh please. Could I have a little ketchup with that serve of hypocrisy?
He should follow some advice I learned from my grandmother
Be careful of the words you say
Keep them soft and sweet.
For you never know from day to day
Which ones you'll have to eat.
manners,
hilali
