Excitement

It occurred to me recently I hadn't left Davis since the New Year's Eve party I went to in Winters (a good 15 miles away). But I'll have opportunities aplenty to travel, soon (albeit only to the Bay Area).

It's such a Spring feeling-- I've been all cooped up, but now I'm getting ready to go out in the world. Naturally it's not as intense a transition as going from being snowed in to enjoying sunshine and warmth again (it's Davis, even when it was rainy and gray it wasn't for long), but the emotion of emerging from gloom to joy is palpable. And my calendar is proof:

Every Friday from now until June 6 (excepting Memorial Day Weekend)- Softball
April 18- BBQ/Potluck
April 19- see a play in SF, go to the director's birthday party
April 20- take a well-deserved day off work, possibly hit up Sarah's 2nd Night Seder
May 23- Fly to SoCal for a week's vacation- potential sidetrip to Vegas TBD
May 30- Fly home, play softball
May 31- SEE R.E.M. CONCERT IN BERKELEY

It feels like the approach of summer. And if seeing R.E.M. in concert isn't the best possible kickoff to this summer, I don't know what is.

There's a change in the air. Can you feel it?

In the middle of the summer, I'll celebrate a year of being back at the Co-op. At the end of this summer, I'll turn 30 (yay!). And shortly after that, we'll elect the next president of this country. And I'm going to come right out and say it: I love my job, I'm optimistic about my future here. I like my life, and I'm excited to begin my 30s in relatively good health and spirits. I'm even optimistic about the next presidential election.

It's nice to feel hopeful and look forward to things. Have you heard the new R.E.M. cd, by the way? It is in some measure responsible for this new attitude.
