I wanted to write about what I noticed at the laundromat.
It would have been better to write it while I was there as I was observing but I didn't. I didn't feel like breaking out the lap of topping or is it a top of lapping? I could have written it offline but wasn't so inclined. I read instead.
Until after the dryers finished and I realized I had left one load in a washing machine and it was still soaked.
And that sucked for another half-hour during which I spent folding most of the now-dry laundry.
This isn't what I wanted to comment on. I digress.
There were two people I was wondering about.
When I walked in there was a girl in the corner across from the door...there's more than one door, I could describe the entire place by using the shape of a Tetris piece...is that strange? Ehh, my mind is in a weird place right now. Everything a jumble. Picture a piece that is two boxes wide, two boxes long on the left side and three boxes long on the right side. These doors were on the box on the right side bottom jutting out, on the left side of that box's border. (There are additional sets of doors on the bottom of the bottom-most left column box, plus one set on the back of each of the top-most boxes in each column along the top-border (naturally).)
All useless and divergent from the point but exactly where my mind went.
She was bundled up, coat, hat, gloves, laptop plugged in (charging) on her lap with no sign of any laundry. The entire time I was there (three-ish hours) she didn't move from the chair except once while I was folding laundry near the end to go presumably to the bathroom before she packed up and left. No idea where to but I didn't see a car so I can only presume she took off on foot. I wondered if she had anywhere to go, did she have somewhere to stay? Was she there for warmth, or free wifi, or to charge the laptop (Doubtful, I don't think it would have taken three hours for that.), or...what? She left with only the laptop inside a backpack. No laundry at all.
I wondered what her story was.
There was another woman who ended up sitting at one of the tables there. I don't remember when she sat down or other dull details. I remember a man who had been using one of the truly massive washers near where I was sitting and and he turned on the television, way too loudly--that could be the sound dynamics of the place because to hear the television it seems like it always has to be blasting so either everyone hears it or nobody can--and when he left the television was left on. I'm pretty certain the woman was at the table then. I didn't take any action because I was still able to read and at the time the television was a minor annoyance. She put her head down on her arms at the table and appeared to be sleeping. As we were the only ones in the room after a bit I turned off the television.
I wandered over to the table next to hear and ended up reading a couple articles in the abandoned newspaper laying there. While I was finishing the second one she got up and turned the television back on. Did she really want the white noise?
It was shortly after that I went to find my laundry mostly dry, except for my t-shirts.
While folding clothes I discovered that I'm losing pants. My favourite pair of khakis is developing a hole at the base of the zipper from the material inside around the zipper area wearing away as it rubbed over the years. Plus my favourite pair of outdoor gusseted pants is starting to develop holes. I was disappointed because that's the pair I bought first (I have a few pairs) but bought...uh, retail? The other pairs I have came from the outlet store for the brand and there are...differences, even if they are minor.
Earlier tonight, before laundry, I went out looking for new dress shirts. I was disappointed that the brand I have a few of from the last round that I like weren't available in solid colours (oh no!). So...that was a bummer. I found a nice pleasing green shirt. I found a pair of Dockers in black (allegedly the same style as those I already have and love but clearly not the same, I have to figure out what version of the D3 Classic pants I have.) because I haven't had black pants I liked in ages and it's about time to re-add them to my wardrobe outside of suit pants.
Plus a vest that was seriously marked down, like by eighty percent off. It's got a soft material on the front, it reminded me of maybe velvet or suede or something? It was delightful.
But I felt so picky. At first I couldn't find pants my size. Seriously, it's like all the average guys showed up and bought pants a the same time leaving only the larger guy sizes. Deciding upon a couple shirts took forever.
The best thing I bought recently was fleece v-neck...uh...sweaters? They kind of look like that and as soon as my arms popped out the end of the sleeves I knew I was buying it. It was a case of "fleece = love!" It was even better because I can wear them to work with a polo or dress shirt underneath. Admittedly I only have one polo I wear to work, if Banana Republic still made polos like it I'd buy more in a heartbeat but alas they don't make them of the same incredibly soft material, they've gone with a more traditional (and rougher and heavier) material instead. Boo. :[
I hate when clothes I love wear out.
