On Brook and his mystery body! (as Luffy would so wisely put it)

Brook is a mystery. He is a heap of old bones, but he is alive. There’s no character that isn’t surprised by this fact when first meeting him... and with good reason.

My theory is that he isn’t just bones (much as he loves to advertise this fact with his skull jokes). And why do I say so?

Simple: he has bodily functions, and you can’t have bodily functions without a body.

Think about it: he talks and sings, which requires, among other things, vocal chords, a throat, lips, a tongue and a healthy pair of lungs; eats (and burps and farts and, as he so helpfully informed us at Luffy’s request, poops), which requires a fully equipped digestive system; he can see and cry, so he must have eyes and tear ducts somewhere, he has blood (or he wouldn’t get nosebleeds) and you need veins and arteries and a working heart to pump it around... and he can think and remember and interact with people, which must mean he has a brain, despite using his cranium to store stuff.

Now, where the heck is this body, and why can’t we see it?

The thing is, he is a Devil Fruit’s user. DF users aren’t ranked among the easiest to understand individuals. If a person were made of rubber, how could his body process food? How could the tissue of his body incorporate nutrients if they were made of something so impermeable? And let’s not forget the strangest guys out there, like mister I-have-swords-for-limbs Zoro fought in Alabasta. Steel isn’t really alive, but Zoro was able to cut him up... and it’s this which gave me an idea.

What if what we can see of DF users isn’t all there is to them? What if there was another plane to them, somewhere hidden, like in a pocket dimension? What if the only way to normally get to this plane of existence was through salt water, and the reason they feel so weak and heavy when they come in contact with it is that that body, their original body, wasn’t supposed to be in this plane of existence to begin with? What if what we can see of them was linked to this other plane of existence and sends food, and air, and nutrients to keep it alive? Of course, what they actually need to send and what can actually damage this hidden body of theirs changes depending on what kind of DF user they are.

Now, Brook... if this all were true (let’s pretend for a moment it is), then the bodily functions fangirls are so in love with (the ones below the waist, if you know what I mean) would be available to him as well. The only problem would be getting somebody who could see beyond the bones and get to this part of his anatomy, hidden as it is.

Are you thinking the same thing I am?

Zoro. Zoro is able to hear and feel the life of things, ever since that incident in Alabasta. That’s how he was able to cut sword guy, because he was able to hear the life of the steel and reach beyond appearances to slash him and cut him up. Before he could do that, his swords had no effect, since really, steel can’t easily be cut down... but after he did, sword guy was even bleeding. If my theory is correct, then what he did was reach his hidden body beyond the steel.

If somebody could see beyond the bones, and reach and touch Brook’s body, then Zoro would certainly be that person. And Brook’s a swordsman as well, so it’s not as if they don’t have anything in common! True, Zoro is a much better swordsman (though I’d like to see him try to sing and play the violin), but it’s still a point in common. And yaoi pairing rule number one states: if there is at least one point in common, as far-fetched as this point may seem, then it can be used to pair any two male characters you wish. ;D

Now, how to make this all into something sexy (and not just for necrophilia lovers)... I haven’t got the foggiest though blindfolds or a very dark room come to mind. :P

PS: I really need a Brook icon... anybody knows where I can get one?

brook, rant, one piece
