Ever had to work at half power? Well, that's me right now... literally. My monitor went crazy and now refuses to let me work with more than half the screen. The upper part is a black rectangle; only the lower half is usable. After a lot of tweaking, a fair dose of guessing work and angle calculation, and not a small amount of swearing, I managed to resize the windows on my main programs so that I can sort of use them, and after a while I even stopped noticing the big black rectangle, but it's still mighty annoying, and I can't turn off my computer or I'll have to do all this from scratch again. And not everything could be resized; some programs only work at full screen, and other are way too annoying in "mini mode" to be used.
Whatever is wrong, it's either on my monitor (which is incredibly heavy to carry to the repair shop and really expensive to replace) or on my video (graphics?) card, which wouldn't be quite as expensive to replace... so according to Murphy's Law, I'm probably going to have to dish out my entire savings plus beg my parents for extra money to purchase a new monitor after dragging it all the way to the shop, and if I'm really unlucky, will have to buy a new video (graphics?) card, too, because mine is cheap and probably won't be enough for an lcd screen, which is the only kind of monitor that is sold nowadays. Oh, joy. -_-
One of the programs that doesn't take kindly to mini-mode is my word processor, so I won't be able to do any beta work (sorry rodickparker!) or advance my fics until this situation is solved. Please bear with me until then.
