Pictures of my furry family!

Well, I promised pictures of my furry family, so here they are:

Some of the babies, enjoying a snooze in my hand.

Just the white babies this time. There are four of them, and while their fur is still growing, they look a very soft shade of pink. :3
The picture is blurry because my camera doesn't have a good definition for such close-ups. The babies ( Read more... )

I thought you were holding...I'm not sure what. I didn't think they were babies. So cute *_*

You should have seen them when they were just born... I could hold all twenty-three of them in the palm of a hand with room to spare. Now I can't hold more than five or six, because they squirm so much that they'd be in danger of falling (I'm very careful that doesn't happen; they're so small, a fall coull kill them). The bigger babies are about an inch and a half long now (sans tail). And they grow by the day! The white ones are almost completely white now. And there are two or three that seem to be completely black, too. Together, they look positively adorable... :3
It's such a pity my camera doesn't take good picture of them, their tiny little whiskers and ears have to be the most adorable thing I've ever seen. And you should see them when they yawn!! I swear, they're so cute I could eat them. X3

Yes, she's cute. And she knows it, and never lets me forget it. XD

All twenty-three of them? What, were they a little bigger than the size of a pill, or something? They do look adorable together. I want to hug them all~ Aww, you talking about their whiskers and tails and yawning makes me want one of my own (I'd never be allowed to have one, but yeah).

LOL Sounds like most cats I know.

Something like that, yeah. They were positively tiny... So tiny that I was afraid I might hurt them when picking them up. The really funny thing is that when they were born they already had whiskers, despite being completely hairless everywhere else. I'd never seen such tiny wiskers before (since I'd only ever had hamsters before, and hamster mommies don't let you get anywhere near their babies until they're weaned). X3

I'm handling them daily so that they grow up used to people (unlike their mothers, who are wary of me even now), so these babies are going to make great pets... Pity you live so far; I'd give you one of them (when they're old enough), or at least let you hold them. ^__-

I've had a rabbit, but I didn't have him since he was a baby, so I have no experience with rats or hamsters...but I want one so bad. So hamsters are fiercely protective of their young?

Good plan! At least you'll be sure that their future owners will have a chance at having a cute, cuddling animal, rather than a weary one (not that there's anything wrong with weary ones). Yeaah, why do I have to live here?! T_T

Hamsters are pretty bad-tempered as a rule (it's not strange for a hamster to bite if they're not used to people, and trust me, it hurts like hell when they do), and when they've just had babies... well. "Fiercely protective" is one to put it, I guess. A hamster mommy needs to be isolated and you have to be very careful that you don't show much interest in her babies, or she may resort to cannibalism... as a primitive defense mechanism; that's why it's important they don't feel threatened at all. Domestic mice and rats are much calmer and they don't mind it so much if you handle their babies; within reason, of course. I always make sure to distract Cathy and Michelle (treats work swimmingly) before taking any babies out of the tank, and I try not to take them all at the same time, so that they don't notice they are missing some babies ( ... )
